First CEL... Coilpack?

So, I'm driving home for lunch and out of nowhere, my CEL comes on and the car begins to shudder while i'm at a complete stop and idleing. When I tried to accelerate, the car acted as if it wasn't getting enough gas and was going to stall. I made it home (only 2 miles) but something is clearly wrong and i don't want to drive the car until I figure out what's up. With the car parked and running in my driveway, the exhaust sounds like a helicopter when you get close to the tail pipe.

Did I lose one of my coilpacks? Could this be a problem with the fuel injectors? I hoping some of you guys with more engine knowledge can help me diagnose the problem quickly. Thanks!

same thing happen to me christmas eve its a coilpack. with the car running disconnect each coil 1 by 1, when u disconnect a good one u should notice a change when u disconnect the bad one u will not see or hear any change.

Is the dealer the best place to get a coilpack? How much do the usually cost? Is it really ok to change them with the engine running? Thanks for the help guys!

dont change them while running. u can just disconnect the harness that goes to them while the engine is running to see which one is bad,but make sure u do it 1 by 1. it wont harm ur engine it will just cut off spark to ur cylinder just like the problem u have now. i was in A pinch so i got one from napa but im goiing to change it out with a better one. it was 35$ from there.

oh yeah mine was broke in half so it might help to have some needle nose pliers

Thanks for the help articONE! I replaced the CP and that did the trick. However, the check engine light is still on. It's no longer flashing, but remains on. Do I have to have the car vag'd to get it to turn off? Thanks!

any auto parts store like autozone or advanced will clear your codes for free if you dont have a VAG

Yes your one of your coils went out, i had the same problem last month! Plug in an OBD2 and it will tell you which cylinder is misfiring.

the cel will go off in 3-5 drive cycles if the pcm does not see a problem

So weird...my wife drives the Audi most of the time and she called me today with the exact same problem. I looked on here and this was the first thread on the page earlier. I did the test and sure enough, I have a CP out.. replacement at Autozone was $32 and I will have in tomorrow AM. Awesome that it is so easy to do too
