New member & new S5...need exhaust help.

I am a new member to this forum and an Audi owner for the first time. I purchased a 2009 Phantom Black S5 with a 6 spd, 2 weeks ago. I am into american muslce cars, but have owned 3 Mercedes....99 CLK430, 02 CLK55, 05 E55. I feel the factory exhaust system on the S5 is much too quiet for a V8. I am looking for a mellow V8 tone, none of the crackle that i am hearing on YouTube videos with NON-Resonated systems. I can`t seem to decide on a Milltek or AWE cat-back system with resonators. I know I DO NOT want the downpipes or resonators removed...the cat-back system is fine for me. Does anyone on here have any input on which system would suit my taste better? The GMG system is out of the question...way too loud, or does it sounds good with resonators and stock downpipes??? I need something a bit more aggresive than stock, but I DO NOT wANT ANY TYPE OF DRONE WHEN I AM CRUISING..just want a bit of a rumble at idle over stock, and a decent growl under acceleration..oh and ofcourse I want nice looking dual tips that look close to factory. To be honest, none of these German V8`s sound like an American V8, although my Mercedes did have a nice tone. The S5`s I hear on YouTube sound like motorcycles. Can anyone help me out??? I would also like input on build quality and tip comparison from Milltek to AWE....thanks. I want to order something ASAP.

Milltek sounds like the exhaust for you. It's pretty subtle but gives a nice great growl when you get on it. PM me for a quote if you'd like.

Umm well milltek is the most mellow of the bunch. It has a great sound to it but is not loud at all. The AWE and Stasis are a bit louder but they aren't too loud and I like the sound of both and they are both said to be great quality.

Re: New member & new S5...need exhaust help.

I listened to every video I could find on YouTube....I wanted to hear input from people that actually have these systems on their cars or have heard them in person. very hard to tell from a crappy video with bad miking. Also, some of the videos, like the AWE & GMG for example, only have the full system, not a resonated system with factory downpipes. I have only heard Milltek with & without resonators. To me, every system without resonators has a crackle to it, which i don`t like. I would love to hear the Milltek, AWE, GMG, and StaSIS cat-back systems, all with stock downpipes and resonators before I make a descision. Then again, I might be limited to only Milltek or AWE if i want twin pipes like the factory. Anyone else???

I don't think you're going to find a car with stock downpipes and resonators but after market everything after that. It looks STaSIS and Milltek are your best because they don't have that crackle that the louder exhausts have.

just food for thought, may want to be a tad wary of GMG after this guy's ordeal

Re: New member & new S5...need exhaust help.

I am aware of the GMG product issue that has been recently posted, thank you anyway. It does seem as though the resonators might keep any of the exhausts from getting that "crackle". I would really like to hear an AWE with resonators and stock downpipes...anyone??? Also, I have seen the horsepower and torque gains from AWE, but not sure what Milltek claims with their system on the S5. Anyone???
