Questions to people who have testpipe w/ flash.

Has anyone had a flashed/chipped program with testpipe that passed emissions?

If not, did anyone use non-fouler mod just to pass emissions?

Re: Questions to people who have testpipe w/ flash.

I live in Florida, and we don't have inspections anymore. I know this doesn't answer your question, but I'm flashed with the APR test file to prevent the check engine light. Based on how my exhaust smells now, I don't think there's any way that my car would have passed an emissions inspection - they used to stick a pipe up the exhaust.

I don't think that it'll pass either. You'd be better off finding a shady smog tech.

Go with Benjamin Franklin, he is pretty persuasive

if they just do a the OBDII test, it will pass, if they use the sniffer, it may fail (well probably will fail)

not possible to pass without a catalytic converter on literally 98% of cars.

Re: Questions to people who have testpipe w/ flash.

Your car will not pass inspection, especially if they connect to the cars OBD port.

The car will actually dime itself out, and fail the readiness test, with a test pipe.

Tuners like Revo and APR offer software to keep the CEL light out, but it doesnt alter the readiness test.

Anti-foulers dont work because the front oxygen sensor reading will not differ from the rear sensor,(test pipe doesnt clean any exhaust) with the foulers, and again the car will fail the readiness test, and give a 02 sensor code. This may cause the State Inspector to wonder why your car doesnt show a CEL, and they will see the test pipe where your cat once was.... Its a Federal Crime, which carries up to a $25,000 penelty to remove emission equipment from your car...

Best advise I can give is get the Milltek HFC, as it flows like a test pipe, however will pass emissions/readiness/inspection. I have one on my A4, because I got tired of swapping out my test pipe every year...

darnit. Oh well, I guess I'll have to be one step ahead of the emissions test.

Miktep, I also searched that HFC can also cause cel.

Depends on which HFC. I have not heard of a Milltek ever failing an emissions test or throwing a CEL. The same cannot be said for other vendors.

Milltek uses an HJS cat, which are extremely expensive and are some of the best in the world. Race teams that must run cats because of the rules typically run HJS. Every single WRC team uses them, for instance.

The cat alone that is in the Milltek B6 HFC is 340 euros (=about $500) if you source it independently. For the extra $300 you get the rest of the pipe and a 2 year, 50,000 mile warranty.

Varies by state. In PA it is every year. Here they only use the OBD system, there is no actual sniffer anymore.

Other states are two, three years between emissions inspections.

Personally, I can't handle the smell of a test pipe. It's like sitting behind a 70's muscle car in traffic. Plus, you are killing the environment.

you can barely smell mine, my cat likes getting high in the garage.

there are companies like TVA that just spilled ONE BILLION gallons of coal sludge into rivers and over land, thousands of race cars drag and track with no cats, lawnmowers, old cars in states that dont have emissions.....

i seriously doubt a few thousand cars with test pipes are KILLING the environment

Re: Questions to people who have testpipe w/ flash.

It is possible to pass with a quattro and test pipe in CA if you are flashed with REVO.

For this to happen, you will need to be very lucky...

1.) The tech has to be able to not notice you have a test pipe with the visual inspection

2.) Quattro cars do a "no load" test which means they attach a sniffer to the tailpipe and read the emissions, the REVO programming should keep the car running at stoich during the test, then it will be up to the fuel in the car to see to it that is passes.

IMO it is much easier to have the stock cat reinstalled for like $150 and go get your emissions test, this way you do not have to worry about getting into trouble.

It is a huge fine in CA for running a test pipe, we are all taking a calculated risk.

Re: Questions to people who have testpipe w/ flash.

i wouldnt do it in a strict state but AR and TN are pretty lax...

someone made a fake cat test pipe. it looked like a cat but it was actually a test pipe on the inside... not a bad idea IMO

if you remove it regularly the install/reinstall isnt too bad (its the first time it comes out thats a mofo!).. maybe 1-2 hours once a year

The 2 times I R&R'd mine, both time one/two of the exhaust bolts stripped/galled from the heat/rust. Once one of the studs coming out of the back of the turbo snapped off! The turbo had to be drilled, tapped and a heli-coil installed, while it was in the car...that was it for me!

your car will need smog once registration renewal comes up.

mine is an 02 and it just BARELY was shy of a month when i purchased it before smog was required. I would have had to smog it anyways.

I just went up to the guy in NV and he did and ODBII scan and I passed. I even told him I thought I might not pass because I didn't have a cat but he said they didn't have to do a visual for that on 4cyl cars. Passed and I'm good for another 2 years.
