    PROS/CONS of lowering Springs

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I wanted to get lowering spring on my 02 B6 quattro sedan and wanted to know how it would affect my car in every way. Which ones should I be looking at (how low)and how much do you think it would be to install them.

    Thanks

    Re: PROS/CONS of lowering Springs

If there's bad roads or lots of steep driveways there can be cons with a lowered car.

As long as you have nice roads and don't go up to many steep driveways there's not to many cons with a lowered car.

I lived in NJ with a lowered GTI and the roads there are the worst but I managed.

Now I live in FL and the roads here are gorgeous, haven't seen a pot hell yet. When I flew back to NJ I was freaking out by my friend doing 80 over potholes, I thought we were gunna die. I already had forgotten how bad the roads are there.

All springs lower the cars different amounts and have different ride feels especially depending what shocks they're paired with.

I like the Eibach Pro Kit it's only about 1.25" drop or the OEM sport suspension.

I don't want a drastic drop on my car, those are the two I would go with just for a little stiffer, tighter ride.

I live in Bergen County, NJ. We probably have some of the worst roads aside from NYC. It sucks having to creep around town, going full lock to avoid potholes =( Anyway, slapping on lowering springs on stock shocks are probably not the best idea. Get coilovers or properly matched springs/shocks, the change in handling is like night and day.

eibach springs dont lower that drastically and i think they're made just for the looks not performance as much. i have Tein s-tech springs and it lowered my car more than 1.7", so the tein springs get you lower, more sporty

    pros- better handling/looks
cons- more chances to fu..k up your car when u go over a big pothole or depending how low your car is, you will have to avoid all the big speedbumps and etc.

I love my coilovers and I've never regretted them. Yes, I have to drive more carefully and my passengers don't understand why I take parking lot entrances at less than .5MPH. But they haven't driven the car...

I don't know if i believe him or not, this could just be hearsay, but my mechanic told me that the fact that my car was lowered contributed to my right upper rear control arm in the front suspension to go.

    Re: PROS/CONS of lowering Springs

dont know if that was what made your control arm go bad.. But your mechanic is right, there is much more stress in the suspension components when you lower your car.

    Re: PROS/CONS of lowering Springs

don't go too low with springs on your stock shocks. OEM shocks aren't meant for that kind of stress and they'll eventually die, maybe within in around 10K miles. if you don't want to purchase expensive coilovers, go with a solid aftermarket shock & spring combo and the car's handling will get better.

    Re: PROS/CONS of lowering Springs

my last car was lowered with Tein coilovers(nissan maxima) and the ride was way improved... handled awesome and ride wasnt too harsh and looks were drastically improved...

but a huge con was the added stress on all the other suspension and drive train components, even with upgraded components. i went through axles almost every 8k miles, and that was with beefy Raxxles. the axles werent built for such a drastic angle from being lowered. this may not be true for audis but i went through suspension parts way faster than if everything was stock... i also lost every belly pan in about 3 months, and i drive super careful (minor, but can be a pain in the butt)

    So wrong

Lower does NOT = Better Handling

Infact, going to low makes Handling worse
