    Little weekend ipod project

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
decided to do this DIY this weekend. i recently got a dice kit and am using that. i chose to have it off center to have the easiest access to all the ac buttons and to the ipod so the shifter wont get in the way. it looks very rough right now because its only the epoxy and no bondo yet.

only problem i see is not creating a large enough passage for different types of iPods in case you decide to upgrade/downgrade in the future or wanted to hook up a friend's iPod/iTouch, etc.

overall for DIYers and your ideas

pretty good ipod connection, love people doing the DIY, nice seeing the progress.

I have to agree, that it should have been just the adapter, not everyone has a mini, so if you wanted to hook up a different ipod it prob wouldnt work. But, like most people, you only really use yours and no one else ipod.

    Re: Little weekend ipod project

im using dice, so if i ever get a new ipod i will just have to do the project over. it was not hard at all, took me 1 day from start to finish. the dice kit also has a normal headphone output, so if i get a male-male headphone cord then i am pretty sure i can listen to anyone elses mp3 player.

    tada

^^^ Nice, thanks - Does that not keep your glovebox from opening properly? Looks good - did you have to secure it on both sides?

OP - did you feed the ipod cable behind the HVAC controls, I'm assuming?

nsmith, how is your wire routed? I have mine going straight to the glove box. Yours might be a better option than mine:

BTW I don't want to take credit for this, I bought exactly what JMG had bought just wired it differently. The wire doesn't get in the way of the glovebox opening nor does the cradle, the great thing is that you don't have to drill a hole. I just slipped the wire in between the glove box and the center console, very stealth.

Yep, +1 to this; there is enough of a gap between back area of the center console and the edge of the glove-box - I have a hard-wired portable Sirius player mounted in exactly the same place and have 3 wires all doing that, too - one for power, one for audio, and one for the sat. antenna. My office's network hates Photobook for some reason, so I'll post a pic of this when I get home. It does, however, look almost identical to the last pic in nsmith's post.

    Great work, OP, looks clean!!

    Re: Little weekend ipod project

i ordered it directly from dice on black friday. the instal was pretty simple. all you need to do is plug in their harness. i also had to solder on an extension for the ground wire because it was to short.
