CEL and codes

so my check engine light randomly came on today. I scanned it and got the following codes. P0300 which comes up as: the PCm has determined that multiple random misfires have occured. and P1606 which shows as unknown to autozones computer system.

Does anyone know what would be the cause of these codes and what the second code even is?

The misfires could be anything from bad plugs/coil pack to a boost.

The second one- A quick search on audiworld shows this:
18014 - Rough Road/Engine Torque Signal from ABS: Electrical Malfunction
P1606 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent

Following posts suggest that it could be a failing ABS module, I don't have any personal experience though..
That's about all the info I have.

how often do the coils go bad? and while changing my spark plugs I accidently severed the connection on the sensor connected to the coolant container in the engine bay. how bad is that and what are my options to fix it?

Coil packs fail when they fail, if your car is higher mileage, it's possible that one could be bad. What are the specs on your car and what plugs are you using?

For the sensor, just splice it back on, wrap it up with electrical tape or solder the connection and heat shrink.

Which NGK plugs? Are you stock, chipped?

I am stock. I have iridium ix plugs I believe plugs. I got whatever they ordered me at autozone for my car

If this just started happening(the misfires) as you changed the plugs recently, I would suspect them. Check the gap and that the coil packs are seated well. Try to get a hold of an actual VAG-COM in your area to help with diagnosing this and your other problem accurately.

I just replaced the plugs. I bought them last night and got the cel today

I'd say that's probably your issue then. Put the old ones back in and if you don't get misfires...there ya go..

I meant that I bought the plugs last night, but didn't install them until today after I got the cel. does the light go away on its own once the problem is fixed or do I have to have it reset?

Multiple misfires are a flashing CEL. If the light is still on, it may be from your other code. You really need a VAG if you are going to diagnose the issue. Otherwise, you're just throwing money at the car. Aren't the plugs like 8 dollars a pop too?

haha yea there expensive. but I was told that u should change them every 100k and im at 95k so I figured why not replace them a little early. I think I might run it down to international autos tomorrow and see what they say about it.

Buy cheap copper spark plugs, change them every oil change. Also, invest in the VAG-COM for these cars, plus a pressure tester. They are must haves if you want to save yourself time and money.
