I know it's nearly impossible to diagnose problems on the interweb, but maybe someone could lead me in the right direction with what to look for.
I've noticed recently what "appears" to be my cam chain rattling. I'm not 100% positive, but it appears speed-dependant and occurs around the 20, 40, and 60 mph mark or thereabouts and the sound emanates from the driver's side of the vehicle. The sound is only slightly audible for about 2 seconds and goes away. It doesn't matter if i have a load on the engine or not (accel or decel) and does not occur during idle. Performance isn't affected either. 99.9% of the time, i can hear it at 60mph +/- during normal driving.
Has anyone come across something like this before, and if so, what should i be looking for? Again, i'm not 100% positive it's the cam chain. The only way i can describe the sound is if you took a chain and dragged it across a small, hollow, metal pipe. (sort of a light, tin-y sound)
I would take some video, but i don't believe you would be able to hear it over the s/c whine. I had my VVT connectors disconnected for a while, and thought that having them unplugged was causing my problem, but i reconnected them and it's still there. No codes are being thrown either.
Any ideas? TIA
