    Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    So I upgraded my Unitronics software to the 630cc file and swapped out the injectors and changed the MAF sensor housing to a VR6 one. The minute is start the car and plug in the maf the car dies. I've been driving the car w/o the harness plugged in. I decided to remove the MAF sensor and take a look at it and this is what i saw;

    Do you guys see whats wrong in this picture??

    Nope. I'd check for a vacuum leak, charge hose off, or the MAF is bad.

    Re: MAF sensor question!

    damn i asked the guys at Uni to give me a mafless file but I was told they couldnt because of my model ecu. Not sure what that meant but it would have avoided this bad maf bs.

    Nothing wrong with the picture, turbo cars do not have a resistor in the MAF element.

    Well that would explain why the vr6 sensor had the element and mine didnt. I have a feeling the harness has a break in it. I would intermiitently get the ESP light turn on and off while driving. Any of you had any issues with the harness?
    I am by no means an electrical person, can you guys walk me thru testing the harness for breaks.

    Re: MAF sensor question!

    Ok another silly question. What is the orientation of the MAF housing. Does the arrow on the housing point forward or backwards when installed. OK i answered my own question.

    Part throttle particularly when cold it runs a little rough but once its warmed up it seems fine. If I connect the MAF then it will die immediately. But I know its not running 100% with the MAF unplugged.

    Re: MAF sensor question!

    Ok so I got a new maf housing and i sprayed the element with MAF cleaner but im not convinced the maf is faulty. I think i may have a short in my wiring. Any electrical gurus have a DIY for performing this test. I'm a mechanical engineer I hate wiring diagrams and anything electrical.

    Re: MAF sensor question!

    Yes I have a cel from the MAF being disconnected. The car runs fine with it disconnected once its warmed up. The reason why I think there is a short in the harness is because I previoulsy had a Carbonio intake and the maf sensor housing was clocked toward the engine which put a lot of stress on the wires. I would get the esp light turning on intermittently while driving or whenever i moved the intake. The MAF sensor was purchased back in April so I doubt it could have failed so quickly. Then again anything is possible.

    Re: MAF sensor question!

    So I installed the MAF and checked the g/s with VAGcom and it was right around 4g/s at idle which is within range. Car actually idled pretty good and didnt die like normal. I even took it for a ride and no issues. So I am even more confused. But if it stays like this and doesnt give me any issues then I wont be bothered.

    Yeah I think its loose or broker wiring. Havent figured out how to test it just yet. Dont quite know the pinouts. I mean I know the pinouts to test the MAF but i dont know how to identif the pinouts on the ecu harness.
