    people with intercoolers

Im debating to get the Forge intercooler for my A3 but I want to make sure its worth the money. Just wondering what people with intercoolers on their A3 thought about it. Wondering what differences you felt from before and after, if its worth the money, and anything else helpful!

    Thanks!

You might wanna check out the vwortex 2.0t engine forum. Lots of discussion about the different intercooler options. Here's the link:

sean, a fmic will not give you much HP, will help you out with heatsoak and with CA weather its always a plus. What is your purpose of getting one, besides looks? I am running one and its great, with our current temperature our cars will feel a lot faster!

    colder air = better performance.

    Re: people with intercoolers

ive ran them both on my stage 2 b6 and mk4, but haven't yet with this one...

im so satisfied with my bolt-on's and aggressive programing at equal level, i truly dont feel its necessary for the money ill have to spend...i doubt ill notice that much of a change, plus im happy where as it sits...

when I had my stage 2 on the dyno, we noticed a huge drop in hp on the 3rd pull due to heat soak... so fmic would be needed to fix that

    Re: people with intercoolers

dynos are also a place that create alot MORE heat soak then normal driving conditions...especially after more the one pull

ive also heard off loss of power/boost with the addition of an fmic (partially due to improper sizing...but sometimes on a system thats not totally in need of a full size front mount rather then simply an OEM dsmic)

if your goal in all of this are numbers on a paper from your best dyno run and a full well rounded mod list maybe...but im thinking just from driving a few well modded stage 2 VAGs, unless your upgrading turbo/water meth/etc. i wouldnt worry about it...(or maybe the s3 set-up which ive also considered)

honestly looks is not a reason at all for me, all performance. Im just running out of performance bolt-ons I can do and I figured this would be the best one to do next.

    Re: people with intercoolers

if you plan on doing a bt down the line and the kit you will buy doesnt include a FMIC, I say go for one. I noticed gains, but dont expect 10+hp, its more for keeping heatsoak minimal. I assume the a3 and a4 2.0t share roughly the same engine, so I could make the above assumption, but I could be wrong.

    exactly

...but i really see no reason in doing that. plus it just goes against my whole ideals of modding

if i had the cash just laying around and nothing to do i would throw on a forge front mount... hit i still might, but it will be paired with a snow-performance stg 2 kit

    Re: people with intercoolers

yeah im not planning to go with a BT kit down the line. My cars a lease and im already pushing it with all the shit ive put into it haha.

im trying to stay below the 700$ mark on my next mod and I think I can get a good deal on the forge fmic so thats why im wondering. don't know if you guys can think of a better power mod for under 700$ ive pretty much covered most of it haha :-/

if you send them your stock fuel pump to be rebuilt with these components, it saves you a few hundred. Ask an Keith@APR for more details.

this was my second option, would you guys go the fuel pump route instead of an FMIC?

    Re: people with intercoolers

fmic over fuel pump hands down, i did tons of research and even made a thread about fuel pumps.

but it also depends if you are willing to do all the maintenance required with a fuel pump: remove the cam follower to inspect cam lobe every xxx miles. I never been the type of person to mod something and have to inspect it to ensure it's not causing damage. But that is just me. Fuel pump would give you the most gain, because you can turn the boost up a bit higher.

Didn't know that jeeze, defiantly wouldn't want a pain in the ass mod then.

looks like the FMIC is the way to go then

no it looks like your just trying to find the "best" avenue to burn that cash in your wallet...
theres no need until you actually DO go BT

with said mods (like myself) its pretty much a waste of cash unless you live in an extremely common 100+ climate or u wanna run a water/meth set-up which uve yet to mention (i bet you could even integrate it into the OEM unit(s) )

why dont u save that $700, get 2-4 more bills and get yourself some coilovers
...or keep saving for that expensive wheel spin kit

    save money? whats that?

Just kind of annoying that ive run out of bolt on power mods and theres really nothing left to do besides getting a BT kit which I don't plan on doing :-/ Id get coils but I just got springs a few months ago and I only have my car for another year so ill settle with springs for now.

    Re: people with intercoolers

i just have flash and injectors and i was amazed how much harder my car pulled when i added a intercooler. i felt more of an increase than i did with exhaust and test pipe. not to mention you can do it over and over and over

i was hitting 175f+ IATs without it and now they never get more than 5-10 above ambient

as long as you get a good sized core, be sure its a high density core it will do wonders for your heatsoak. ER makes some great quality stuff for the b6, im not sure about a3
