Gearbox oil leakage from a freakin plastic bag!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Driving back from a nice vacation, I drove over an empty black plastic bag on the highway and i did not think twice about it.

A few days later, i started hearing a weird rattling sound coming from the gearbox area.

After taking it to my local garage: the damn plastic bag was stuck between the end of the gearbox and the rear shaft (Quattro). God knows how many thousands of rev its went thru!

After removing it, we are now getting some gearbox oil leakage from that area. we obviously damaged the radial shaft seal.

Where can i get diagrams/schematics (those exploded views with all the parts and their numbers) of the gearbox so i can figure out the part number?

What is the name of that seal, since they list several different ones?

Re: Gearbox oil leakage from a freakin plastic bag!

so i searched ECS tuning for #31 using part number: 01V 409 399, and nothing turned up.

but under 'remarks', it states 'also use: 01V 409 809', corresponding to #32 on the diagram, which look to me as a completely different part!

searching ECS tuning for the '01V 409 809' turns up ' Original Equipment Supplier - Drive Axle Seal-Right (Passenger) Side ES#5813, Output shaft seal on front driveshaft flanges'

i am confused, whats going on here? any help would be greatly appreciated.

The ETKA is not user friendly and is actually meant for Audi/VW techs which I am not but my understanding is that "also use" means to consider using it when the other part is affected. Now the flange shaft leads to the drive shaft and that is highly ulikely to break but my guess is if u take it apart u will need the new ECS gasket above for longevity unless u want to fix another leak soon. Hope that does it for u.

Re: Gearbox oil leakage from a freakin plastic bag!

so here is the weird thing...... searching ECS tuning for the EXACT part number turns up nothing on my end!!!!!!!!!!

so i contact them by email, and they have the flange but NOT the oil seal!

trying to find it online without any luck. Other than ECS tuning, what are my options?

Re: Gearbox oil leakage from a freakin plastic bag!

    thanks....

so they have the shaft in stock, plus its $76 cheaper than ECS!.

as for the oil seal, they have a part number 01V409399A with a description of 'seal', and not b 01V409399A. Do you think the b makes it a different part? or shall i go ahead and buy it!
