Belly pan replacement - thank you snow...

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
It sounds like I am not the only one who has had thier belly pan trashed over the last couple of weeks due to snow.

I am thinking I would like to get a metal replacement. Any hints or clues what or where I should be looking? I'm thinking a group buy if I can find one.

I did find this one, that can be modded to make work but I am looking for alternatives due to the cost on this one:

Re: Belly pan replacement - thank you snow...

there are multiple pieces of plastic underneath the car right? the very front one ripped off of mine a couple of days ago, and now the middle piece is dragging on the road when i drive. is it safe to rip that one off too even though it seems like the trans is exposed?

I'm in for a group buy if we get one, mine was one of the others that was destroyed and ripped off. I still have the plastic hangars still hanging off the bottom of my chasis, scraping the ground every time i hit a bump or something.

I just the way it is mounted, also would look cool to see sparks when driving over potholes. I'm thinking of replacing all pans with metal ones, I just ripped off side one.

Lost my side plastic on the passengers side on a 300 mile road trip. I couldnt STAND the noise it was making while it was dragging, so I pulled over and ripped away what was left of it. And this is a b7 s4.

I'm talking to Winston, it seems he needs to find an easier way to get the parts cut.

I'm working with my brother'n'law to see if he can fab something for cheaper then the link I provided. I should know by the end of the week. I think we could knock out a few for the boards.

Anyone have a solid contact @ ECS? We should talk to them also.

I would be very interested in a metal one depending on price. My plastic on is still on and intact, but it sounds like it's just a matter of time!

Also if anyone does go through w/ attempting to make one of these, I think some type of sliding door or trap door setup would be amazing to get to the oil drain plug w/o removing the belly pan every freakin time!

Almost lost mine last year. I had to remove it because it was covered with alot of ice and causing me to plow lower.

Took it off, let the ice melt in the garage and put her back on. I wouldn't mind a bullet proof belly pan though.

As I posted in the B7 thread about the same thing...

If you aren't in a dire need for a bellypan then save your pennies as I plan to release a metal version of it in 2009.

No.. It won't be ready for this Winter as I take my sweet ass time making everything I sell to my standards.

I don't have a ballpark cost as I am still getting pricing for the materials, cost to cut, shipping and minimum order quantity.

    Sounds great, thanks Winston!

Will this have any option for changing the oil WITHOUT removing this damn thing like I mentioned above?? That would seal the deal for me!

Any extra option like that which requires labour just increases the price and I know firsthand just how willing you people are to that.

But I'll stare at it for a little while and I might be able to dream an elegant solution up.

Well I can't speak for anyone else, but in my eyes, if it was indeed an "elegant" solution to this, it'd be well worth the extra cost (within reason of course ;-))

Well people are already asking me if the price will be less than the Dieselgeek Panzerplate which costs $250.

So I don't know what "within reason" would be.

haha well i have no idea how much this type of stuff costs to put together. "Within Reason" meaning a price that doesn't make me go "screw that"! $250 didn't sound too bad to me if it was a nice piece. And if it's a little more for the slidding door thing, then so be it.

I have considered a metal one but don't like how they react in the winter with snow.

The B5 A4 belly pan fits on the B6. You just have to drill two holes up front to align with the holes in our core support. The rear three holes bolt up fine. I trial fit my friend's new B5 pan on my car and it works. Probably going to do that for now and come up with a non-metal alternative this summer since I have to rebuild/replace the undercarriage pans along the rocker panels.

Re: Belly pan replacement - thank you snow...

    Hello Darren.

    Thanks for contacting us.

Our A4 Thor skid plate does fit your car but the one difference between your car and the 2001 and earlier A4’s is they have an actual metal bracket at the front center hole that the skid plate is able to bolt to. With your car there is a very thick but strong plastic bracket that is the radiator shroud. That is why we only have it listed to 2001. It is a liability issue that we were concerned of with not being able to have the skid plate bolt to something metal at the front.

One of my distributors in Canada installs the Thor skid plate on your year of A4 all the time. He tells me he has no problems and has never had a complaint for any of the customers. Only one small hole will need to be drilled for the front mounting location.

I hope this information helps. Please let me know if you have any questions.

    Cheers.

Can I make a request? Can it be as large and flat as possible? Two reasons.

    Better projection.

    Better aerodynamics.

Oh, and throw in some suction venting on either side of the engine. More so turbo side.

This is still a work in progress and for those of you that don't know I take my time to get a product out, but when it is ready to purchase you'll be more than happy with it.

Waiting patiently as long as it makes changing the oil less of a pain

    Take your time!
