    VMR vs. Alloy-R-US

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm looking to buy some RS4 reps, Alloy-r-us is having a holiday sale with the ones I want, but they're so much cheaper than VMR (not necessarily good or bad) Just wanted some opinions on quality of both of them, owners please chime in, PM if you don't want to post certain comments, just need some advice thanks!

edit: forgot which section I was in, mods if you feel this needs to be moved to wheels and tires please do so :D

    Re: VMR vs. Alloy-R-US

well i really cant vouch for alloy-r-us but i can definately vouch for VMR. i've looked into their rims multiple times only reason i dont got them now is because of certain circumstances. I've seen alot of their rims in person and rarely hear about complaints from them. and Charles from VMR is totally a chills guy and he will definately set you up with some sick rims with great service.

VMR has a deeper dish and more aggresive look to it..so i hear
    OEM is sexy.

i have R8 reps from Alloy r us, and the wheel guy i took them to to get them mounted said they where some of the best non oem wheels he had ever done, took very few weights to balance! and i get compliments all the time at the stealership and around town

    Re: VMR vs. Alloy-R-US

i do think that the VMR wheels are more concave than other rep brands, giving it a significantly more aggressive look. the concavity is why OEM RS4 wheels look so damn good.

the alloyrus reps look fantastic. i may get a second set once my summer rubber runs out. you will want to reuse your stock centercaps tho cuz the ones that come with the wheels look cheap.

VMR hands down look so much better (better concavity giving it a more aggressive look), but it's really hard to beat the alloys'r'us deals and vouched by a great dealership (penske) so I say you look for pictures and see what you like better.

I can't say anything but good for both companies. VMR has exceptional service (when I looked into buying their rims) and alloysrus has exceptional prices. I would pick whichever rim you like the look of better, for an RS4 replica go with VMR, for an R8 replica go with alloys.

I think VMR is more curvy and looks closer to the oem RS4 wheels which have more 3D effect than the others..

Anyone got more pictures of the Onyx Black color from VMR? It looks like chrome in some angles.

I have a set of hypersilver VMR reps on my black B7 S4 Avant. Great wheels, great service from Gideon (don't know if he's still there). You can see a few pictures in my gallery. I got the 19's and love them. I'm waiting to see some pictures of the new matte black 708. If I like what I see I'll replace my silver rims for matte. Hopefully they'll post some pic's soon. VMR all the way.

I think those pictures have sold me on getting a set of those in the onyx finish for this coming summer. What is the durability of that finish like? The standard oem painted silver wheels are pretty resistant to discoloration and brake dust, how do the onyx black VMRs compare?

Our improved Onyx finish is strong as all the other finishes on our line. But if you are looking for a finish that can be easily cleaned, then i would go for GM. Its basically for the lazy. But i do recommend cleaning wheels as often as possible, no finish can prevent weathering from the elements.

    Re: VMR vs. Alloy-R-US

I hate to be the bad guy, but I will not purchase wheels from VMR in the future. I say this because I purchased a set of 19" RS4 reps in Onyx and they didn't last 6 months before they started to flake. At the time of purchase I asked the sales rep (name is not important) about the flaking and was told they fixed the finish and it was much more durable. When I emailed the rep with pics of the flaking they acted like they were doing me a favor and approving my warranty claim, but the expense of dismounting the tires, shipping the flaking rims, and remounting the tires would be at my cost. Yes, their warranty card shipped with every set of rims states this. However, I felt (my opinion) that VMR should stand behind their product and at least pay for the shipping. With all the mounting and shipping cost, I might as well pay a new set of rims (apparently not a bad idea to have back ups). I have a friend that dealt with Alloy-R-Us and when he had an issue with a bent rim (not Alloy-R-US's fault), they sent him a new rim at no cost. Granted I know "you get what you pay for", but it does not show VMR having much trust in their own product. On a side note the wheels looked great. I use to get a lot of comments about them until they started flaking, now all I hear is what is wrong with your rims? I think I might just have them powder coated here locally, less expensive then dealing with VMR's warranty (hmm, maybe that is the point. sorry a little sarcasm)

What's the longevity of VMR wheels? I think it's important to know how long these are expected to last before flaking, if you're going to spend $800-$1000.

It's important to understand that the guy who said he wasn't happy up above^ was referring to wheels that had the old version of the finish. They have updated it and made it stronger and I haven't heard about finish issues from anyone on here since.

As long as you keep them clean, they are going to weather like any other wheel and I don't think you will run into any issues, just stay away from curbs!

    Re: VMR vs. Alloy-R-US

Unfortunately, I was told this was the new finish. That being said all 4 wheels are flaking. I only used a diluted car soap to clean when needed, in most cases I just used water. One idea I had as to why the flaking happened, was the weather change. They started flaking as soon as the temps got down in the 30's. Trust me, I loved the way they looked on the car just not sure they are worth the risk especially with the lack of support from VMR.

We've had customers driving on our wheels for over 2-3 years without a problem. And they live in the worst places with the worst pot holes ever... We do offer a 1 year warranty on any manufacturing defects or defects in the finish. We also track test most of our wheels locally at road courses in CA.
