Good info. Do you know which dealer? My local dealer is showing $60K right now with a $14K discount. What is the backend cash on these?

I think that back end was 7k. The dealer's are taking the loss to move them. The one with a 17k discount is here at McKenna off the 605 freeway, just south of the 5.

I think that people are just not checking prices. You can buy new for less than $60K so why would anyone pay more than $50K for used?

i really have no idea... especially since trade-ins with 25k are getting $35-37k, dealers are making 10k flipping these things, plenty of room to negotiate.

To put things in to perspective, you can lease a B/N 2008 M5 for $999/mo $5500 out of pocket.
Makes me think that Audi needs a wake up call. They are over priced by 15%. Dont get me wrong, I love Audi but, V10 power, no shortage of goodies and an exceptional car for less than a RS4 that is discontinued for the time being. This is the nationally advertised program too, so theres room to work. You could get this car for $850-899/mo.

CarMax doesn't negotiate, from what I understand.

I just dropped the price of mine to $49,950 on AutoTrader.

Please don't buy a car from Carmax, especially a performance car. Some of my friends used to work at CarMax and they'd beat the piss out of anything that was worth beating. Mustang GT's, Camaro SS's and w/e they could get their hands on. Its good for a laugh now, just don't buy from there.

I bought used... it's hard to justify the price of a new car, even with discounts, when you can get really high quality used cars for $10-$15,000 less than the new price. But, to each their own!

While I agree Audi is expensive, don't forget their business plan is not to be the low cost German car maker...and they're the only Germans to grow sales in 2008.

I have trouble with this monthly payment voodoo. Talk about the actual price of that M5 if you want to compare the two cars. Monthly payment can be a terrible measure of a deal because we don't know:

1. how many months?
2. what's the interest rate on the loan/lease?
3. how are you comparing leasing to buying?
4. how are you going to get a 15% discount beyond the already discounted prices? (850 vs 999...$149 yes, but on a 4 year lease, that's $7,200)
5. what are the mileage allowances?
6. Is it a true walkaway lease?

If this is a 4 year lease, your cost is $48,000+$5500 down so $53,500...which is just about the same as the RS4 at $57,000, but after 4 years the RS4 owner doesn't have to give back his car with ZERO in return as your lease deal does. If it's a 3 year lease, the M5 cost of ownership for 3 years is $41,500...vs the RS4 at $57,000 forever. In 3 years that RS4 will be worth $30,000 easy...giving you $27,000 cost of ownership for 36 months vs. the $41,500 of the M5.

Apples and oranges. While the RS4 is no M5, let's not lose touch with reality here...

Selling just to get out of having the money tied up in a single vehicle. I want to buy a couple of cars that I can modify more, with less of an impact on the bank account :)

It's a shame, because the car looks brand new inside and out, so somebody will get a great deal. I have it listed at $46,999 but will take $45K for the car as it sits.

Other than that, no reason at all for selling. The RS4 is by far the nicest car I've ever owned, and the most versatile. I love every bit of the damn thing! I'll probably buy another one in 3 years or so, and modify it and race it.

Good luck to you guys that are out there buying from auctions. It's a nice place to get some deals, but most auction cars get reconditioned by the dealers that buy them. There are lots of tricks that make a car look new... mobile paint/body guys that spray sections of the car in the parking lot, blend clearcoat, sand and smooth wheels and repaint in the parking lot. I've seen it all done, even to cars in the $100,000+ range. There's always a right way and then a cheap way to do things, and the dealers always go the cheap way!

I hear ya there...I've been down to one vehicle since October '08, for the first time in years. I like having a luxury sedan, a sporty car, and a 4x4 truck for winter driving (and hauling/towing stuff). I consolidated just about everything into the S4, with the exception of the truck. I finally decided I just don't need a truck badly enough right now to justify the extra registration / insurance costs, so I sold my Lincoln Mark LT last fall. I'm hoping to get back to three when the market gets better and I can generate a "fun budget" again.

Ive noticed them going up slightly, has anyone else? Ever since I bought my RS in March, the prices seem to eiither be sticking, or have gone slightly up. Probibly due to the limited runs and no B8 RS4.
