How have you guys modded the RS4 bumper to the S4?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hello!

New guy here. Driving a Red 2000 Avant.

How have you guys done to fit the stock RS4 B5 front bumper on to a S4? Any DIY on how to?

Newbie at doing plastics and shit. Don't really feel like cutting up my 1000dollar bumper for fun.

Can it be done without a lot of hassle or should i just give up and leave to a bodyshop?

    Thanks in advance!

I just bought this, the Dietrich front bumper, fits the normal narrow body and accepts the genuine rs4 grills and looks pretty spot on.

**sighs** It has to be heat molded, DO NOT HACK UP THAT BUMPER!!!!!!!!!!!!

It has to be done by a professional body shop, unless you know what you are doing.....which sounds like you really don't.

On the other hand, if it isn't an OEM RS4 front bumper, hack it up all you want.

So lets clarify, is it OEM or a "replica" RS4 front?

I will be buying an OEM bumper when i do the modification. Heat molded? Okey, I will just leave it to my bodyshop.

Both seidl and Dietrich have a nice bumper. But i like the OEM look better. I'm not in a hurry to do this mod, Mechanical comes first.

Please do some searching over on AW for pics of OEM RS4 front bumper installed on a non-WB S4. Many have the bottom lips of the bumper sagging or flaired out b/c their bumper was not properly molded

I think the S4 w/ the center bars removed and RS4 mesh put in place looks 100000000 times better, plus you don't have $500+ in labor alone to get the bumper to fit properly

quttroaudi, can you confirm that Deitrich bumper is fiberglass?? I thought it was a mix of ABS plastic and fiberglass, something called flexi-something

Re: How have you guys modded the RS4 bumper to the S4?

It is all fibreglass, but the it was a lot cheaper than going oem, the finish and fit is both very good and i liked it cos the rs4 grills went straight in just needed to fab some brackets to mount it on the original bumper mounts, nothing too hard, and it turned out good, as long as I don't ever hit anything! But cheap enough to replace if I do.

I too kind of like this one over the oem RS4. I prefer the quality of the rs4 more, but the lack of work needed to make it fit is awesome. Really the reason I prefer it, is because I like to cut things up and make my own twist to them and this would be easier to modify. Ive had fiberglass in the past and its really not worth the headache in the end if you live in an area with hard slopes and shit that would tear it up.. They get destroyed quick.

Re: How have you guys modded the RS4 bumper to the S4?

Yes it can be done, and yes it is a pain in the ass... there's a diy on here somewhere that shows exactly what needs to be done

Re: How have you guys modded the RS4 bumper to the S4?

    Another OEM RS4 f.bumper thread.

I also DIYd this. It is a major PITA and FWIW, the write up that is out there wasn't the best way IMHO.

I actually will be doing this again as I bought another car with the OEM RS4 f.bumper and I will be doing it over so it is "right". I'm not looking forward to it either as it will cost me at least another few hours of modifying then another $350-500 (more if I do all that I have planned) to have it painted and that's with me doing all the prep. To do it right, they need to spray the bumper fenders and blend into the doors and I might as well do the hood; also in my case I'll do the euro rear bumper and trunk at the same time. This time the front end is getting clear bra'd as I don't want to do this sh!t over.

In the end, if you don't care about the sagging front, just let the body shop do it but make sure they don't mess with the fenders to compensate. Also, this is not a DIY if you dopn't have experience with this type of thing. Even the body shops are often biting into more than they realize when they take the jobs. I'd recommend taking it to someone who has specifically done an OEM RS4 bumper on a S4.

x2. 99% of the rs4 bumpers that are "professionaly" installed look wrong(still better then most replicas). Go somewhere that has done this before because its expensive and its worth having it done by someone who knows what their doing and will take pride in their work. It is annoying to spend 1500 on a bumper mod just to have a gap or issue with alignment.
