Ebay Vag Com

I recently bought a Vag Com on Ebay. I ran an auto scan and came up with no fault codes. Durning the scan there was no control info on the Open Controller screen....am i doing this right? Am i able to run the auto scan correctly since i bought this off ebay?

Hmmm... are u sure this is a genuine VAG-COM Ross tech cable. I bought em all: EBay, ECS, and finally the "original" multi-hundred $$$ unit from the mothership truely gives me the full functionality. There is a key that unlocks all of the software features in the VAG-COM cable.

I think u can scan with a regular cable though. That is not even certain though as they're constantly releasing new software versions.

You are correct. the only way to get full functionality of the vagcom software is with a real vagcom cable (dongle). The generic ones online allow for data logging, some changes and clearing of codes, but not full access. Also like you mentioned there is NO software support/upgrades for the generic cables. Plus the older key codes could only be registered to 1 computer. the new hexcom is a different story.

I bought one of the ECS generic cables as a cheap replacement for my real cable when the puppy chewed on the real cable. And well the generic cable works like crap.

I will end up using my VAD going forward since it does everything my vagcom does and it is more convient.

i have the ebay cable and i have found you cant do a entire scan of the car. you have to pick each module and scan it. its perfect for when say the airbag light is on, just scan the airbag module. once i get a little more into tweaking my car, i think illl spring for the real thing.
