    aftermarket navigation install ???

wazz up guys and merry x-mas.

I got some money to spend on the audio system and was wondering what you think about my proposed setup. pioneer avic f900bt, infinity component speakers. I already have a 10" sub with enclosure along with 2 pioneer amps sitting in my garage from my previous car I sold. Also have a question...since the car has 10 speakers will the headunit control all the speakers individually providing I get the appropiate harness from somewhere? I searched crutchfield and they don't carry a harness for the 04 s4. I would like to get more bass out of it so I'm installing the sub and amp directly from headunit. anything I left out? thanks

    Re: aftermarket navigation install ???

May want to try using the harness below with the stock speakers first to see if you like the sound. I did that with an Avic Z2 and it sounded much better. I also added a sub with a small amp in the cubby hole in the passenger rear for additional bass.

    - Metra 99-9102 dash kit
    - Metra 70-1787 wire harness
    - Scosche VWA-4B or equivalent antenna adapter

10 speakers, LOL. Audi counts the tweeters as a speaker, so between the front and the rear, you have 8 "speakers". Add the center and subwoofer, and you have 10. With the Pioneer unit, the only speaker you'll lose is the center speaker, otherwise, the aftermarket unit can control a 9 "speaker" system no problem.

The Metra 70-1787 is needed if you want to use the stock amp to drive your speakers. If you're going to drive the speakers with your own amp, then you need to get the Metra 70-1784.

    Re: aftermarket navigation install ???

Tweeters are very important speakers in any set-up.

The wire harness & install kit is spot on.

IMHO: speaker choice is entirely subjective-if you like their sound quality that all that maters.

What many people do is just install aftermarket component expecting intrinsic perfection-they are dreaming.

If you do proper upgrade with adequate sound deadening material, proper enclosure specs & mount all door speakers to MDF it will be sick!

If not, buy the head unit that best meets your needs + proper adapter and you will be verry happy; & richer, too.

    Good luck with the project!

Would you post HU post-install pictures? The Bose set-up is ok for me-but- I don't have Nav.

So, if I don't trade my S4 for a S5 I will be adding Nav to my S4; soon.

I'm also curious, looking into the F900BT. The stock Audi headunit is double-din, correct?

    Re: aftermarket navigation install ???

I went to different shops in my area to do the install and all of them wanted close to 400.00 to put the HU in. They also said that I would be losing the use of Audi Telematics function and steering wheel controls. Anyway I made an appointment to a recommended shop (after saving some money) and in 2-3 I will have it installed along with other stuff. I will definately post pics of the results.

    Re: aftermarket navigation install ???

Well I finally got the pioneer f90bt installed and it works great. I also got 35% tint all around done at the same shop. The only thing i'm waiting to install is the metra bracket aroung the radio and the subwoofer as well as the amp. Like I said before the telematics and the center speaker will not work with this HU. The sound is much better than the audi unit as well as features, including bluetooth which works great. Will post pictures of the finished product tomorrow.
