    Coilpack questions

I am pretty sure that I have one or several coil packs going bad. After my car sits for a period of 8 hrs or more, it will have a rough start then a rough idle, loss of power, and flashing CEL (this usually happens in warmer weather). I will usually slow the car down, shut it off for about 5 minutes and then I will be back to normal with no flashing CEL anymore.

So how do I determine which coil pack is bad or should I wait until it is completely bad to replace. I am not about to replace all 6 of them. Will a CEL scan tell me which one to replace?

Thanks for any help and Happy Holidays!

    Re: Coilpack questions

i would do it right and just replace all of them , i'm assuming you have a 3.0 (6 coils) i'd also change the plugs

vag'ing will indicate which cylinder is misfiring , that'll be your culprit.

    Re: Coilpack questions

if you want to diagnosis the problem. vag it and get the code it should be P0300 & P030*. which ever cylinder that is misfiring from here make sure you clear the fault code. If you want to make sure it's coil simple way to check is removed coil from other cylinder that is not misfiring and install it on cylinder that is misfire. From there vag it to see if the P030* changed to the cylinder that you just swapped it too. If it did it is the coil pack that is bad.
