Jumping an audi is a bad bad thing for all the computer systems because of the imbalance of voltages, the computers get weird codes.

Take off the positive cable for 10 minutes and all the systems will be a-go!

Had the same problem, if you have vag just clear the codes for the headlight auto level system and it will be good to go.

Take it to the dealer lol.. Usually they wont leave an error fault, but at BMW we see all types of weird codes all the time. I think the light will go off after like 30 cycles with no current fault found. Or, just take off the neg battery cable for 10 min and itll clear itself out. I would recommend neg over pos, bc alot of the modules are internally grounded, and there might be a spike if you play with the pos (BMW info)

What I do is just jump the car, usually my gas guage wont work after that, and then I will wait until it is charged up, and then disconnect the cable to reset everything.. it will be ready to go!

hey i hooked up the vag tonight and didnt have any codes for the xenon system

but did have a code for

    01800 light switch e1
    27-00 implausible signal

i did notice on the switch for my lights the 3rd position over AKA parking lots it does not do anything at all and no parking lights come on now??

i think that is what is possibly causing the problem, since arent all positons supposed to light up on the dash?

instead of jumping a car, go to autozone and buy something like a recharge kit. Jumping is also very bad for the alternator.

yup. remove that batt and let it reset itself. Overnight perhaps. Once, on a B5 A4 I once fixed an issue like that by removing/replacing certain fuses. good luck

Re: battery was dead and had to jump it, now headlights symbol on all the time?

Can someone on here explain the electronics reason why jumping is bad? I don't get it. The difference between a single battery or two in parallel is that more current is available, but it will only be used IF demanded by the load connected to the parallel batteries (i.e enough current for the starter to turn over).

It shouldn't do anything else to the rest of your car's electronics.

There is nothing wrong with jumping a battery....if you are having to jump it in the first place...then it's probably toast unless you left something on.....the headlights prolly need to have basic settings set to clear the light off of the cluster....oh what is basic settings?..something we do at the dealer...dont know if the vag has those capabilities....

jumping cars is fine with a jump box or another battery. It is no diff. The only way you are gonna damage something is hooking it up backwards. We jump cars all the time at the dealership. But yea as far as cars have come. The modules and such dont like it when they expierence low voltage. And can set codes and such.

Re: battery was dead and had to jump it, now headlights symbol on all the time?

Yeah I believe the dead battery is what has tossed the codes, not the act of jumping. Sorry guys I'm an EE and just don't buy the "jumping is bad for cars" story..

Re: battery was dead and had to jump it, now headlights symbol on all the time?

just was checking all the fuses and those are fine, also since the headlights began to stay on all the time the auto dim rear view mirror has not lit up since then either, which is why i figured a fuse was maybe blown.

also on the light switch the 3rd one over does not light up at all when i turn on the headlights not sure if that is maybe causing the issue

Not true at all. You can jump a dead battery on the S4. The codes are thrown from the dead battery, not the jumping. Power is regulated AFTER the battery. Improper jumping may damage the battery, but your car will be fine.

Re: battery was dead and had to jump it, now headlights symbol on all the time?

My $0.02 As an EE with 35+ years experience I'm confident to say that jumping a battery with the CORRECT voltage jump starter is fine and won't cause any problems - the fault codes that you will almost certainly see are caused by the low battery voltage and not by the jumping.

The only time jumping is a problem is when someone uses a truck jump starter (28V) to jump start a car (12V). Don't think this doesn't happen - I used to work for a car manufacturer and we had to design all our electronics to cope with 28V being applied for up to 3 minutes, because if a car wouldn't start when it arrived on ship at the destination the guys would use whatever jump starter came to hand...
