    ECU swap question

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have a chance to buy a GIAC chipped ECU for 2000 A6 2.7T MT6 for $375. Has anyone done an ECU swap? Is there anything I need to know while doing this other than taking the old one out and plugging the new one in?
    all info appreciated thanks

    Re: ECU swap question

Make sure the part number on the ECU is the same as yours. If they match, should be plug and play. If one is auto and the other manual, there is some vag-com work, but it is still doable.

Yep this is from another MT6... So exact ECU numbers and it is plug and play? Will it mess up mileage or is that set in a different area?

Same thing I did, but mine was APR. Exact plug and play, mileage is in the cluster. Everything should work same as before except more fun.

    Re: ECU swap question

Are you buying this off of craigslist? I answered an ad locally for a APR chip, that the ad stated was for an S4 or A6. When I emailed him and asked which is it since the cars use different ecu's, he said the one for the A6 is a GIAC. He never mentioned that in the ad, which makes me not trust the "seller". Just curious if this is the same deal?

He quoted me a price of $550 for the ECU, or $375 for the ECU if I send him mine back. So if this is the same deal, and he sends you a bum one, you will be in bad shape cause you will not have your stock one to fall back on.

Install the chip. Before you start your car, turn the key to the on position without turning on the car. Leave it in the on position for 3 minutes, to allow the data off the chip to load.

Every time you hit the pedal to the metal, it'll feel like you hit the nos button.

    Re: ECU swap question

Yes, it is Marc. He emailed me again and said he saw my post here, so he does frequent the boards. Must me the person RAUDIS6 is referring too. I guess maybe he is legit. Dealing with someone strictly from craigslist can be scary. If he is known around here and people can vouch for him, I see no reason why you shouldn't buy from him.

same ad is all over craigslist in San Francisco. It is usually posted so many times it is hard to browse the other ads.

    Issue? send me an email

When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life.

That ad is reposted every day here in Minneapolis, I get so tired of seeing it, I've contemplated buying the damn ecu just to get it off craigslist. shame on that guy polluting such a pure and honest classified site.

I considered the same ECU for my 02 allroad but was worried about immobilizer problems.

What year is your A6? I have a 2001 and purchased a used APR chip and had ALL sorts of immobilizer issues! Buyer beware!!
