Yes sir. This is a D2 branded coilover setup. Whether they want to buy their own machines to make components or if they have their contracted factories to make individual components, its a business decision for them to decide. The end result must meet their (and our) expectations to carry the brand. For example, an Audi branded windshield is made by "Securit" and their shocks are made by someone else (I forgot the mfr but its stamped on there).
Country of origin - Its a good indicator of quality but isn't the "tell all" in terms of quality. Some of the well known coilover brands do come out of China, so do most of the crappy wheels on the market. Being in the import/export industry, there are many shady things that one can do. So don't place 100% trust on the things you see.
As far as quality goes, every application is basically a completely new product... You might share smaller parts like collars, but the dampers are valved specific to each vehicle and so are the mounting hardware like upper and lower mounts. So when people report issues with their specific application such as the one you speak of, it might be due to a part that was made specific to that car. In either case, looks like D2 took care of those issues but I agree its unfortunate they didn't see the problem until after it gets sold. It becomes a loss for everyone.
With all new product "introductions" including new cars, some people like to be on the cutting edge to have the newest and greatest. But its not for everyone, as some would only make a purchase once the product has spent some time on the market, after kinks (if any) are worked out.
In the case of VMR Wheels, we have loyal customers who come in to test out new wheels, fitments, etc. It may or may not fit right the first time around, but you can count on the fact that they are well taken care of
