Hello everyone, this is sort of a highway condition report based on my own experience, if anyone are going down south in this couple days, I think I better share the conditions with everyone. I will tried to post some picture when I have time. By the way, i am driving B6 S4 Cab, with Pzero tires.
Day 1: Dec 20 Sat - From Vancouver --> Olympia, WA
Start to see snow @5pm, before Seattle, really heavy snow and I5 become a 2 lane highway. I tried to go until the condition become undrivable and I ended up in Olympia, WA. There was about 10" of snow by then. The visibilty is so low so I decided to stop, and I was surprise that I am not stuck at all going thru smaller street to find a hotel. Some of the side street got a foot or more and I am moving so smooth without much spinning or slipping... it's just amazing.
Day 2: Dec 21 Sun - Olympia WA ---> Medford, Or
If you think Sat was bad enough, Sunday was even worse. You can play ice hockey on I5 all the way!!! Most part of the highway was cover with ice. And by the way, Chains are required in the whole oregon region. Area around Portland is nighmare, I was checking TV and I personally think it was way worse than what TV report said. Since I don't have snow tire nor chain, I decided to drive slow. After 4-5 hours of slow rolling on I5, alot of car tried to pass my spun around behind me, my car is still running fine, no sliding at all.
Another reminder, because of cars and trucks are using chains, the chains create so much groves on the ice and there is no way you can drive faster than 30miles. It felt like the car was dancing on ice.
By 3-4pm, i stop somewhere in Denny's, within that 45mins, I was snow, rain, sleet...whatever you name it. Snow just completely cover up my car during that time.
and by the end of the day, I saw some green stuff finally.
Day 3: Dec 22, Mon - Medford, Or --> San Francisco, CA
If you think you will not see snow here, you are WRONG. CHAIN is still required before North CA. I end up bought a pair and put it in the trunk. When I looked at the map, i knew i need to go over 4000ft mountain!! and no kidding, it was snowing like crazy, most of the car put chains on, but I just keep going thru without any problem again.... Audi rules!!!
Around the north CA region, climate change every 15 mins, from snow to normal, back to snow and so on until i get close to Redding, CA.

To be cont....

Cheers,
Gordon
