    DV Abnormal fluttering (fixed it)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Tonight I was driving and noticed my DV started fluttering instead of the normal "pshh", and I'm just concerned what could have caused the change? It sounds pretty cool but its the fact that its not normal is what's concerning me. I was getting the car into boost just to make sure it felt like full boost, and it does. I took a flashlight and looked at the DV as far as I could see and nothing looked wrong, and there are no abnormal noises other than the change in the type of sound the DV makes. Anyone know what this could be ? TIA.

BTW I have a Bailey Motorsport DV running on APR 1+.

    Re: DV un-normal fluttering

Ohh ok thanks, I just never noticed the flutter before. Even when I've been on part throttle in the past I've always had a nice full "Pshh" never a flutter so thats what's weird. Owell. Idk what to make of it.

    Re: DV un-normal fluttering

if ur using a 710N or something it might be getting old now when u let off the gas after full boost and it delays a couple seconds or flutters that means u have a bad DV

    Re: DV un-normal fluttering

Ahh f***. Yea it does delay maybe like 1.5sec after letting off the throttle. But literally it came out of nowhere. I wasnt driving hard or anything i'm starting to think maybe the cold air is stiffening it up? Its been in the mid-teens to low 20's here so hopefully its the weather messing with it. I'll see if its still acting the same tomorrow. Thanks for the input though.

in normal driving it should not flutter at all and a 1.5 second delay is huuuge does the bailey need to be serviced?

    Yup, on its way out.
And while you're at it, Check the vacuum lines.
No sense in replacing something when the lines feeding the whole operation leak.

Fluttering sometimes could be caused by the vacuum line. Do you have a boost gauge??

    Re: DV un-normal fluttering

Nope, no boost guage. IDK about it being serviced, I got it used from someone idk maybe a year ago and its been fine. The 1.5 sec delay isnt exact its just what I was estimating from my memory but yea there def. is some delay I noticed that during driving. I'll try to check the lines and everything if it keeps happening.

    Re: DV un-normal fluttering

It happened to me a couple days ago... I was driving home and it was fine, parked in my garage, left the car running, ran inside to grab something and went back out... While driving back to my office it started to flutter... Got to the office, let the car sit for a couple hours, started it back up and no more flutter... weird

lol ive been having alot of brain farts lately, i couldnt think of abnormal haha. I think un-normal could be correct considering that "un" means not, but abnormal is just more correct haha.

    Re: DV Abnormal fluttering (updated)

well I now know its the vacuum/boost line that somehow detached itself from my dv, along with the nipple that was part of the top side of the dv. Thanks to oldguy for the help through PMs, I can't do much on my own without a jack or ramps as far as fixing it goes. I think I'm just gonna wait till I get a new belly pan and have my dads shop repair that, and I'll have them try to fix the dv too but I might need a new one if I can't find that damn nipple that sticks off the top of the dv and came off with the hose. I can't even find the loose hose itself.... Well the boost power loss I'm now noticing sucks too... Just ranting I guess. Feel free to chime in.

    Re: DV Abnormal fluttering (updated)

    that means compressor surge.

I'd get tha fixed NOW. Don't wait. And dont' drive it until it's fixed.

Unless you can completely stay out of boost.

    Re: DV Abnormal fluttering (updated)

baileys DV can't be serviced, but as i recall it is lifetime warrantied. the shop that sold me mine a few years back told me if it breaks...just bring it back in for a free replacement.

btw. flutter isn't normal. even at partial throttle, you should hear an instant and clean 'pshh' when releasing the throttle.

    Re: DV Abnormal fluttering (updated)

yup that's what I used to have, a nice pshh. my problem is just fixing it. I don't have a jack or ramps somewhat because of a fear of those two that was wrongfully put into me. Also partly my dad owning a building that hosts a repair shop that does all our work, but I hate bothering them its time consuming and annoying. I was thinking of just getting some ramps and fixing it myself, or waiting till I get a new belly pan and having the shop do both at once.

    Re: DV Abnormal fluttering (updated)

ok just fixed it thanks everyone. I think my main problem was finding the hose cuz I didn't know where to look. I found it before on the 4th time looking and pulled it up by the intake, took the old clamp off, took the nipple out and screwed it back onto the top of the dv, then I put a new clamp on the hose and squeezed my hand down by the dv and got it on after a few minutes. Thank god that headache is gone. Everything seems normal now so hopefully it stays that way.
