Question Why do the B6 folks hate on the APR exhaust?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I was wondering around on the forums here and saw a threat that indicated a LOT of APR Exhaust hate. While I know its not too popular due to its quiet nature, but anyone who either was a previous B6 owner or in the know want to elucidate the issues for me? The B7 owners that have it dont seem to have any beef at all. Edumacate me!

Re: Why do the B6 folks hate on the APR exhaust?

the APR exhaust system for the B6 is the same as the B&B or Billy boat exhaust system; there's no real additional R&D for the exhaust other than the badging. The welds are known to crack and cause exhaust leaks along the system due to poor craftsmanship. That being said, i have no qualms or issues with mine and love the sound and power it gives me. *knock on wood*

The craftsmanship is pretty shitty, and generally, when they fail, APR doesn't want to cover it. APR doesn't have a good track record with B6 products. Their DV's have ripped open, snub mounts crumble, exhaust welds crack, customer service is subpar. You'd be better off going with an AWE unit.

My question to those in the know is: are they providing the exact same quality of product to B7 customers?

that would require someone who had a b6 with APR and then a b7 with APR. That's a tough combination to find.

x2 although i am happy with my R1 DV. just not their service

people hate on the exhaust because it cracks and an exhaust isnt easy to warranty.. are you going to take it off and ship it to APR for repair and drive around with no exhaust? and pay shipping on it?

Is their exhaust the same as what they use for B7s? I'm interested because its quiet. I dont want drone or noise/loudness in the cabin

Haaa its quiet but it will drone enough to vibrate every part of the car padded or not given the right rpm, gear, and engine load. For the record we are talking about the APR Stealth Exhaust.

The design is flawed it puts all the stress of the system on a single pipe going into the center resonator. I know mine will fail some day too. Go Milltek If u dont want any worries. It is equally "quiet".

YES call and ask APR and get their dumb "I don't know", "I never heard of that" expressions when their phone lines are full of people making the same complaints as u are. Dont listen to us.

Re: Why do the B6 folks hate on the APR exhaust?

if you want a stealth sound that isn't loud go with Milltek, it's a top notch product. stasis makes an awesome system as well that is quiet but it's quite expensive. even neuspeed isn't very loud, search youtube for some video/sound clips.

i'm against all things APR, just heard and seen pics of too many faulty products lately. enough to never purchase from them again.

i don't hate on APR exhaust, I'm all for quiet. I picked up my Milltek exhaust cuz I liked the way it sounds not cuz it will give me more power. I drive too slow for that.

Re: Why do the B6 folks hate on the APR exhaust?

Without more information and without being directly involved I'm sorry but I cannot do a great job of elaborating but I'll take a stab.

With the first link it doesn't sound normal. I may be missing part of the story but if B&B would warrant it, and it was an issue with build quality, I don't see any reason why we wouldn't.

Possibly with the second, the email may have been lost in the mix. I'd highly recommend a phone call directly to us.

As I said before, if anyone does have a problem, a simple call with photos of the damage will be your best course of action!

Re: Why do the B6 folks hate on the APR exhaust?

APR really needs to work on there customer service, I still havent recieved any replys to my emails. I had 2 of there POS DV go out on me and had my shop switch it out for a forge one. The exhaust is poorly made and cracks, the snub mount poorly made and cracks. So really the only thing that hasnt crapped out on me yet is the tune *cross fingers*. But its amazing that they still have a some what good name after all this stuff im not sure how.

^^their tune's are solid, haven't really heard of anyone with problems. they sell a LOT of stuff nationwide, so the problematic parts in comparison to total sales volume is probably very small. i just don't really want to take that chance, replacing parts is expensive and time consuming.

Re: Why do the B6 folks hate on the APR exhaust?

Top remedy the cracking problem before it starts, have 2 small braces welded from the top and bottom of the resonator to the pipe at an angle. This will provide the additional strength needed in that area that tends to flex. Although it shouldn't crack in the first place.
