when i bought my car it only came with one key so i think its time to get another just in case. my local dealer wants $130 for the key plus $60 for programming. I've heard to check out ebay and skip the $130 dealer cost of the key, and all i can find on ebay are keys with:

    315 MHz
    4D0.837.231.F
    FCC ID: MYT8Z0837231

    ebay link http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2002-...Q5fAccessories

    whereas my key is:
    315 MHz
    8Z0.837.231.F
    FCC ID: MYT8Z0837231

All other numbers match up, besides the first 3 characters in the middle set of numbers. Will this ebay key still work for me?

    Re: key fob

Not sure about the keys but you can program it yourself in case you were not aware. I'm not sure if there is a B6 write up but I used the B5 write up and it works perfectly.

    EDIT: Found it

You will need BOTH of your "switchblade" keys to reprogram one or both of them.

Take the key you DO NOT want to program and put it in the ignition. Turn it one click forward.
Close and lock the drivers door with the second key.
On the second key (the one in the drivers door) press the 'UNLOCK' button ONCE only. The lights will flash on the car, but the doors will remain locked
With the second key still in the drivers door, unlock then lock the door again.
Pull the key from the slot and test remote functions.
Open drivers door, remove key from ignition.

If i get my blank key simply cut at a locksmith than can i program they key part(not the buttons) to work on my car using this method?

    Re: key fob

Why not just buy a B7 remote and reprogram it? You'll have a nicer remote and the DIY isn't that hard. You'd just have to find a blank key.

Yes it programs the remote to lock and unlock all doors and truck and arm the alarm...obviously. The dealer told me my remote was broken and it would be 300 for a new remote and 150 to program it. I bought a battery for $2 and programed my "broken" remote and it works amazing.

That seems a bit high. I'd check with other dealers.
