Can I go from double din to single din??

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I was just curious wether or not the face plates around the controls are interchangable. I am asking because I got an aftermarket deck and since it only takes up on din space I dont need the second open space. Now on the pre-facelift A4's I saw that they have just the one open space, can I use that surrond on a face lift model a4?? Thanks in advance, I'll try to get some pic's up to explain.

Yea you would just need the inner cage, center dash, and faceplate.

It would probably be pretty easy for you to sell off your double din stuff. (or even trade with someone)

I get a requests for them weekly.

no its not possible to go that route. you need the shifter surround, hvac, radio cage, ashtray and front half of the console to make the switch, along with the radio/hvac trim.

I have it all for sale, except the radio.. and i'll let it go for a really good price if you're interested.

Re: Can I go from double din to single din??

You could use a metra dash kit. This allows you to mount single din radio with cubby space underneath. Otherwise you will have to get single din cage...along with center console, HVAC controls, ashtray and shifter surround.

    here you go.

I would personally go for the metra dash kit, install the single din deck and then use the open din for this:

I was in the process of making a Single Din setup for my integra (referenced pic above) that fit two gauges perfectly into the din.

ignore the two different gauge styles haha. What can i say, i was a honda driver

Rob, If I were to ask: can you sell me everything to do this, without me having to look it up? - would you say yes?

I have a 1998.5, so I am do not have en effin clue as to what I would have to buy... but I would love to get an AVIC or something in.

Re: Can I go from double din to single din??

Even if you dont buy from me, i just did this swap yesterday.

    you need:

    front portion of console
    shifter surround
    ash tray
    radio cage
    radio mounting cage
    hvac controls
    cup holder
fog light switches (both front and rear)

that is what is needed to go double din.

now what wiring will you need to do? not a clue.

to go 99.5 single din you need the same things, but from a 99.5 single din.

I'm in. Rob, not sure what you're doing with selling this stuff, not asking to you to be my trunk monkey and do all this work... but PM or email me a price and the details. I am at a crossroads with more than a few things in my car and it is all hinging on a couple other things happening... so... you may have just pushed me over the edge! haha.

    Thanks for your time,
    Bill.
