Well not so much new, Ive lived here for about 6 years now and Ive been driving my GS300 for about 5 years as well. Im all into fourms and going to meets, GTG, drives and whatever you'd like to call em! ive been on CL (clublexus) IS300.net (my.IS) and VSC (vipstylecars.com) LuxuryJcars.com... Now im thinking i might want something different... ive been wanting a wagon for a while now so ive been thinking about an S4/A4 (B6 chassy code?) wagon and i need some help, I DONT KNOW ANYTHING on these cars except they look good haha... The closest thing ive been to one of these is that my best friend owned an 04 A4 with the ultra sports pkg. and it was SLOWWW and then traded it in for an 07 CTS.. haha

If you get an audi, you wont regret it. Lexus is fine and all but it is too boring, soft, automatic, slow, etc, etc. Thats why I traded my 06 IS350 for my bmw. Dont get me wrong, the lexus is absolutely bulletproof when it comes to quality and NEVER had anything go wrong with it, but it wasnt for me. I used to have a B6 S4 and it was much more fun than the leuxs. If you do go with a german car, you can bet something is going to break.

Of BMW, Audi, and lexus, I would rank the cars like this.
Lexus-softest, most luxury, non-sporty of the 3
bmw- roughest, most boring interior, most fun to drive, most sporty of the 3
audi - good balance of luxury, ride quality, sportyness (1/2 luxury, 1/2 performance)

Secondly search around because you can get used audis for VERY cheap cause they hold their value like a piece of crap (i know first hand when I traded mt B6 S4). Look in california also, there are alot more dealers there and you can get a better deal there. I would also get an avant since they are sleepers.

Reliability and big power is a tough combination unless you spend a lot of money. We'll see about setting up a January g2g, but it depends on if there is enough interest.

i disagree. the 1.8t is very mod friendly.. take for example YOUR setup gene; bolt on bolt on bolt on and you make 340+bhp ... and id hardly call an eliminator kit expensive, or unreliable.

For the money, i guess the 1.8T is a pretty good modding platform, and pretty friendly towards bigger turbos and whatnot. The tune's out there could use a little tweaking, but if you know what you're doing, you can make just about any tune work for you.

After getting a ride in Rob's (thirdstrike) and David's (Silence) cars, i'd go that route if i were to do it all over. 500hp on tap is nuckin futs, especially at 3k rpms! those pull harder with 3 people in the car than mine does with just me and 100oct.

i can get about 300 hp to the crank? like im more interested about the styling of the car but i rather have a quick .. not so much fast daily then move on to styling...

thats one thing i do regert about my GS300.. ive got a turbo kit sitting in the garage (t-67) but im too lazy to put it on.. the car is quick with the little bolt ons but i sort of neglected power for looks! but im happy with the car...

for this A4/maybe S4 i just want to learn as much as i can before i purchace one...

all i know is that for now i definatly want QUATTRO haha.. im still debating over sedan or avant but im leanong over to avant a bit more...

LOL. I wish I would have never gotten rid of my Santorin B5 S4. One of the funnest cars (and pretty fast with just an ECU tune) I have ever owned. Aside from the clutch and the TBB (tore twice) I had zero issues with that car.

in all honesty, the s4 is as reliable as the a4; it's just a year or two older and the rumors are just that, rumors.

The main thing you have to look out for in a b5 s4 are the TBB's and the stock turbos; but if the stock turbo's go, it just gives you bargaining room and a reason to go stg3. If you're handy, you can do it in your garage like Rob did and have yourself a beast. The only other issue i can think of is the dots in the center part of the gauge cluster go out, but that's another bargaining chip which isn't too difficult to fix.

You've got to realize you're buying a German car, so you have to understand you'll have a bit of maintenance go with them; but with that said, i enjoyed every minute of driving and working on mine.

here lets break it down;
common issues & problems with both 1.8's and 2.7's;
borg warner k03 turbo charger
center display in cluster pixels dying (all b5's)
maf sensor failures
cam-tensioner-adjuster seal
valve cover seals
coil packs
vacuum leaks
boost leaks
idiots that dont do proper PM on their car
issues mostly only seen on 2.7's;
throttle body boot tearing
diverter valve failures
egt sensors failing
secondary/aux water pump cracks
....
both engines are VERY similar in design. similar enough to share the same spec'd pushrods. only thing with a 2.7 is its shoe-horned into a car that has barely any space for anything. therefore a lot of heat has nowhere to go and wears on parts.
a 2.7 can be had for cheap these days. and between me and David(silence) theres nothing on the car that cant be handled in town and for the price of a case of corona

Oh boy I know all about Laguna Seca Blue, ive always had a thing for them, the BMW dealership just had one for sale about a month ago and i was so eager to get it till i saw the interior, it was grey and i wish it was black so i backed off... my uncle used to have one and my aunt and a matching m3 in the dark blue color with the brown interior.. that car int was hot too!

this just occured to me; what are you going to be using this car for? a daily? or a weekend fun car? The whole reason we put out the b5 s4 was the fun factor; if you want a beast of a car, the b5 s4 has everything you want and more. Just be ready for the amount of gas you'll be burning through with the addictive boost.

If you're going for a daily, then i'd say stick with a b6 a4 USP avant. As Silence said, you can get set up pretty good for about 5k on a good turbo setup if you can find a 6-speed. Plus the 1.8T will still net you at least 24-25 mpg on a bigger turbo setup if you want to drive it daily.
