    Re: Gear Oil

You should be using either a synchromesh or a GL4 rated gear oil 75/90 or 80/90.
I believe I used the Mobil 75W90, but that's GL5 rated, I don't know if it will cause any long term issues or not. I did some research and my understanding is that GL5 has better lubricating properties than GL4, and Mobil claims their Syn 75W90 exceeds all GL ratings.

I'm going to use a different brand next time and see if I notice a difference.

and FWIW, I get the stupid hard shift into 2nd on days below 20*F.

    Re: Gear Oil

GL5 will eat brass which is what your syncromesh is. GL5 is fine for rear diff but the front tranny needs GL4. Redline MTL90 and RoyalPurple make a synthetic GL4 75w-90.
DJwimbo i would get that out of your tranny and put in GL4.

Good to know. I'm a little pissed b/c apparently nobody knew that when I asked, but that's how things go right?

... now that I'm actually looking I remember doing this before and saying "F- it, GL5 will work just fine.. it has a higher number, it must be better". The underlying theme was that I was on my 20min break from school and grabbed what I thought was right. I guess I'll have to change that soon.

Yah I know took me a while to find out what GL-4 ment. The maxim bigger number doesn't work on brake fluid either since DOT5 is not for your car as well... but DOT 5.1 is oh why must they confuse us.

Center diff is part of the transmission, so what ever you put in the trans will end up in the center diff.
