    Coilover Input

Looking at a set of coilovers for my A4 Quattro (without sport suspension). I don't have any experience upgrading suspension, but would like a stiffer/sportier ride and to be able to lower it approx 2.5". I only need a coilover set-up that is height-adjustable since I won't be doing any tracking. The roads in Colorado can sometimes be a little harsh, but not horrible. I know that Stasis Streetsports are very popular on this forum, but have also been looking into KW V1 and Vogtlands. I think the KW's may be a little to stiff for the roads here, but does anyone have experience with both Streetsports and Vogtlands? The price seems to be similar and both are quality products. Are the spring rates of the Streetsports (about 450 f/r) and the Vogtlands (500 f/r) noticeably different? All input welcome.

PS I will be upgrading to an RS4 RSB as well.

Ive heard that the vogtlands are a lot easier to adjust in the rear.

    Re: Coilover Input

I would not suggest streetsports/koni. This is mainly because ride height and dampening adjustability requires removing the coilovers. I would try Vogt or better yet just go for the Vogt GTs if you ever plan to track.

You do not have to remove them to adjust the height. You do have to move them to adjuust the damping. But why would you want to adjust the damping on street sports? STaSIS sets it up (damping) pretty much perfect...

That's the beauty of coilovers, adjustability. I obviously didn't do enough research when I decided to buy the Stasis street sports otherwise I probably would not have bought them. I need to have all 4 corners adjusted at a shop since I don't have the time to mess with them, I would gladly pay the extra money for easier adjustability. The Stasis are set up fairly well I will admit, except for the raked look. I need to drop the rear a touch and stiffen the damping slightly on all 4 corners because it's almost too soft, especially up front with the Deval bumper (scrape) and LM Reps with 5mm spacers (rub). Buying pre-set coilovers and not adjusting them is as good as buying a spring/shock combo, which is cheaper anyway lol. You use coilovers to adjust them to your custom set up or how you want them to be, it shouldn't take all day and some removal to adjust them

    Re: Coilover Input

I really like my Vogtlands. The Stasis SS were too soft in my opinion; basically too close to what the stock ride was. The Vogtlands feel stiffer than what the spring rates are rated at, but a good firm. The springs are progressive, so they get stiffer the further they are compressed (i.e. a small bump won't be overly stiff, but if you throw it through some corners, its plenty stiff). They're stainless steel too and I haven't had any problems throughout the winter with them siezing up. Only height adjustable, but I've found they are valved properly from the start, and the rebound is quite quick. Plus you really can't beat them for the price (maybe PSS9's if you have a bit more money to spend...)

Please take this with a grain of salt. Suspension is a very subjective thing, and what feels stiff to one person feels soft to another. Try to get a ride with someone if you can.

    Re: Coilover Input

Here I am again, broken record and all

    Check out my thread here:

    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=253470

Since you won't be tracking the car, keep in mind you will be paying hundreds of extra $$'s just to be able to raise/lower the car (which I totally understand). My setup is a shock/spring combo from STaSIS that is every bit as good performance-wise as a coilover setup, the ride is the perfect comfort level while being lower, and all this comes at a fraction of the price of coilovers. They are, however, not heigh-adjustable.

I think it is an especially good option considering you said you're on stock NONsport. While this setup offers significant performance increases over both stock sport and non-sport suspensions, some say it doesn't appear to be that much lower than stock sport from a ride height standpoint. Like you, I had stock non-sport before this, and not only is it perfectly lowered but the handling/ride makes it feel like a different car.

Give Jim@STaSIS a PM and he'll hook you up; tell him I sent ya!

have you ever tried doing this first hand? the front is very difficult because the coil binds when you try to turn the perch. this is especially true when raising the ride height. the rear collar turns as one with the perch since the collar isn't secured down enough. also, its almost impossible to get any leverage with the adjusting wrench in the tight space. in the end, its easier to remove, adjust, reinstall...sadly.

if you have done it, please share some tips, how-to videos. thanks.

    Re: Coilover Input

I haven't done it myself. But the fronts are pretty easy to adjust. Just take the wheels off and raise them up. The rears are a PIA, and I think they would be with any coilover. The control arm (I think) blocks the C/O so you have to take it out to get to it.

And to the guy who with the Deval Bumper and SS, I don't think the damping is the issue, your probably to low. I was scraping my front bumper, and I have the Non-Sline when I had mine installed. I had the fronts raised up, to get rid of the raked look and to give me some more clearance. Worked like a charm. The only time I'll get scrapage now is when I go down a really steep to flat street or parking lot exit. I try to avoid them.
