OMG, my CIVIC Hatch got STOLEN.

I'm going to cry! I saw it last night when I got home around 12A, didn't even notice it was gone this morning. Took my Audi to work and when I got in at 7AM, Oakland police left me a voicemail at 615A this morning saying they recovered my civic hatch...WTH!!?!?

Apparently, it's stripped..but not sure how bad. Will let you know when I find out.

Merry Christmas to me. UURGH.


I know I know, there are worse things than getting my car stolen, right? I should be happy to have a roof over my head, my health...friends and family.....

if the car is insured get your insurance papers (know your policy) & get ready and call your insurance agent as soon as possible , make sure you also get a detailed police report handy and be prepared to give details to your insurance agent. (where and when it was stolen)

discuss your options with your agent about benefits (rentals , etc)

depending on the damage done to your civic , they'll cut you a new check for a new car or fix the car if its deemed salvageable.

if the thief is caught you have the option to press civil suit against the person and collect monetary loses.

you might also want to consider investing in a security system of some type in the future if you haven't done so already.

I called my insurance agent this morning right when they opened, but he wasn't in the office and i've been waiting on a call back. Just got home...have to call San Jose PD to file the report since my car is in limbo...er, recovered before it was reported stolen. so I can't even get a status of the car's shape.

sucks i had an alarm and a club on my car...no broken glass where it was parked.

i didn't really care for the VIS CF hood anyways, it was getting dull...I do love my JDM headlights though.

i really hope insurance can cover the towing, i know that might cost an arm and a leg.

sorry to hear. i had my teg stolen a couple years back and all they found was the shell. try to work with your insurance until you both agree on a price. never take their first offer.

as long as you get some wheels on it they will tow it to wherever you want. unless you have a rider your 'mods' might not be covered, but in many cases oem costs more then aftermarket so you're still probably better off. assuming they left your suspension, exhaust, and more of the more difficult mods.

Sorry to hear about it. My friend had his civic hatch stolen not once but twice from in front of his home. Both times it was taken for a joy ride and was found without stereo equipment. This was just his daily drive, POS car too!

my 89 nissan got stolen........police came to my house, didn't even realize the car was gone!! Guys totaled it into someone's house, never saw a penny b/c it only had liability. It was worth 4k with only 58,000mi original. That was in 2003.

so...just got back from Oakland PD, then A&B Auto then La Pinata to down a margarita...may be I should've gotten a bigger one...

i'm so lame, i help but burst into tears once in awhile...

but those f*ckers took the following:
VIS CF hood (which is ok..getting dull anyways) and too flashly for my oldie-ness
my SI wheels and almost brand new tires
Alpine deck and cd changer
2 amps
subwoofer and box
boost gauge, er i mean tachometer that looks like a boost gauge from afar
yakima roof rack, two bike attachments and fairing with all my decals from all my past events. boooooooo!
umbrella (dave's mom and dad's umbrella)
"banig" or rather...wicker mat (pinoys know what i mean)

so far looks like a professional job. the ignition is in one piece, the windows are ok...*shrug* the car is rolling on 4 donut spares (black wheels look good on my silver car) but the body seems to be in once piece and the interior seems ok. i'll share pics after i upload them.

i just hope there's no damage underneath the car.

Karma is a wonderful thing - those thieves will get what's coming to them in the end.

Fortunately "banigs" are cheap to replace!

Try not to let the car stuff get you down. In the end, the car (and parts) can be replaced.

Sorry to hear Dawn. Hate hearing about bad things happening to good people. Alarms and Clubs just buy time. A crook is gonna take what he/she wants. Hondas especially are an easy target. I hate parking my e30 out in the street because I know its also just as easy of a target.

Ill definately keep an eye out on on hondaforums.com, baracing.com, and of course craigslist for any idiots trying to sell your stuff.

sorry to hear, least it sounds like you got it back in fairly decent condition, i would have expected worse. They probably had a key makde for the car, very common these days. get that VIN covered up and if you havent get some rear door handles, thats what i always have done on my hondas so there is no key holes.

Just went thru the pics... Looked like they took their time and did a 'clean' job. No rush at all. All the electrical wires look to be disconnected/unscrewed, as opposed to cut (bright side: less work for u to re-install), and the A-pillar gauge looked to be unscrewed as opposed to ripped out.

Happy New Year Everyone!

I've been meaning to respond on this thread and give an update..so here it is..

Last Tuesday I met with the adjuster at the shop (Arco's in SSF). First he asked what I wanted to do with the car and if I wanted to total it. I was a little surprised cuz the car is just missing audio, wheels, roof rack and a hood and it's totalled?!? Car is in great driving condition despite the missing parts. I was a bit perplexed. I had no idea it would take over 2 hours for the adjuster to do his thing.

He valued my car at $4,800. Wth?! My civic was super clean IMHO and babied all these years, hardly any dings with just a small section of oxidation.

After the adjuster faxed all my stuff over to their office (including one year of service records, receipts, window sticker from dealer, etc.etc..)...

Estimate: $4,500.
They are replacing the hood with a "recycled hood", paint and blend to the fenders
Replacing SI wheels with "recycled SI wheels" and new tires (I had receipt for the new tires and pic of my car with the wheels and rack)
Stereo - replacing with something comparable (I hope they let me chose)- I had my receipt for my Alpine deck
Speakers - Being replaced with OEM honda ones at $12 a piece - I hope they can give me the money instead to put into ones I really want.
Cd Changer, 2 amps, Subwoofer - loss
Yakima rack - will replace, but didn't provide dollar amount. I didn't have the receipt.
Damage to driver side roof - apparently the one section the thieves messed up - they pried off my Yakima racks leaving dents and scratches. Shop will fix and repaint
I think there's damage to the key hole on the driver's side but I dont see it in the estimate.

I didn't even get to say yes or no, the adjuster just told me it's a settlement and that shop will fix.

Wait... The cash value of the car is $4,800 and the estimate to repair it currently stands at $4,500, and the adjuster told you they would repair it?

That's weird, and you're really lucky. The repairs represent 93.75% of the ACV. Insurances usually declare a vehicle a total lost when the ratio is around 75%. I had to fight and negotiate with my insurance copy to avoid the total loss.

You should be able to work w/ your shop to get what you really want in term of replacement parts, although you may have to cover out of your pocket the difference btw what the insurance would be willing to pay as "standard" replacement parts vs. what you want.

I guess sometimes it does pay off to be a girl...

oh yeah i read about the total loss and learned about the 75%, so I was a bit scared.

The shop is supposed to call me tomorrow to discuss the numbers. At least I know I can shop for my stereo and speakers, they will just give me the money to shop, which is probably not much. He said the hood and wheels are on their way. The insurance company already gave him the green light to start repair. I'm excited but also worried once my civic comes home. I'm so afraid he'll get stolen again!
