How much does an AEB longblock weigh?

Searched, but I couldn't find anything.....does anyone know how much an AEB long block weighs? I've gotta drive 2 hours to pick one up in the next few days, and I wanna know if I can fit it in my Avant, or if I should try to borrow a larger car (might be hard given the distance). Please help

~35 odd kilograms from what mine feels like.

Will be able to get it in your car, just take something to put it on if it's still dirty. I didn't, wow, what a mess.

when I brought my ATW motor home (no acc) but full motor me and poopie put it in my trunk with seats folded down and it took me and a buddy to get it out. BTW I have a a4 sedan on race springs and it didn;t rub or anything on the drive home..Fit fine just put plywood down and some sheets or something. And I sold the bottom half of the motor to someone form RI, they fit it in a mini coopers trunk haha you got nothing to worry about.

I see you bought the 200 dollar engine off craigslist. It should fit in the avant buts its going to be heavy.

Cool....I believe that one I"m picking up has all the accessories still attached, but I'll see if I can snap some of those off before I load it in.......the guy said he'd use a cherry picker to load it in my car...The plywood is a great idea

yeah, you should be fine with the avant, you have the height advantage. The only tight part was getting the motor in with the motor mount brackets attached cause of the low trunk, the width wasn't an issue. But with the avant you have plenty of height/room between your trunk and back seats

Awesome. Thats 209lbs, which is much lighter than I thought. I was thinking about removing the head there, but the guy said he's got a REALLY small shop space, and since its that light, i'll just leave it in one piece. Thanks guys

Yeh Im going to call bullshit on the 209lbs for the whole motor. I have an 06A block and just the block with internal weighs at least 200lbs. A head weighs like 60-80lbs, and then you have acc. so yeh a longblock is going to weigh more than 300lbs.

Seems like the short block would weigh about that much. I'd guess about 250 as a long block and 40-60 more with all the accessories.

dang 179lbs seems light for a whole engine. That AWM block (w/ internals)I have seems like it weighs 200lbs, but maybe not.

I've heard the aluminum boxer in Subarus is 175 pounds which is light for a four cylinder. Ours would have to be quite a bit heavier.

However much it weighs, this sucker is HEAVY......I just got home from picking it up. it was easy to get in the car with a cherry picker, but the trick is gonna be getting it into my garage withOUT one

Well, I finally started taking this thing apart to check out the damage, and unfortunately, it looks catastrophic (at least to my untrained eyes...). It looks like the intake cam at some point began to contact the walls of the head itself. And as you all know, metal-to-metal contact is NOT a good thing....My guess is that the oil was so sludged that it failed to penetrate that crease, which resulted in the two metals contacting at a high rpm, and thus melting parting of the head and scoring that cam

So, is this head basically just a big paper weight now? Or is it machinable? My guess is that the cam is done....but then again, I really know nothing

Heavy, but doable. You'll need two people to load and unload it.
