Has anyone here had their car re-sprayed a different color? If so, what did you pay?

I am asking about the WHOLE job...engine bay, door jams, the works!

and that's why, I will never re-spray my car any color than the factory. I'd never be happy for the little parts that are different in color.

My buddy just got his 52 buick resprayed for $1500 (exterior only, plus a shitty job on jams) with a two tone, after doing 80% of the sanding himself and letting the shop hit some small spots. I must say..it's a really shit job as far as quality paint jobs go(got it done at macco.). it's fine for his needs, considering the car had *no* paint before and it's the color he wanted, but you need to spend 4-5K+ at least in order to get near OEM quality. The shop didn't do so great a job on body work, and sanding, and there's overspray where there shouldn't be..and lots of 'nicks' ect..

    Re: Exterior color change...price?

A paint job from paint shops really cannot match up to the factory paint jobs. I would have to give a on painting ur car a different color, plus when you go to sell your car the color wont match up on your vin as Charles stated.

If you read my original post I included the engine compartment and anything else that would have gotten painted the original color at the factory. There is NO WAY I would let the engine bay stay the factory color...that's pretty ghetto (or Maaco if you prefer).

I'm not all that concerned about the VIN not matching. I plan on keeping this car as long as it still runs! Still...food for thought. Thanks for all the input. I'd probably be better served by finding a car the color I want with fewer miles and swapping my parts over. Just hard to find such a car!

    Re: Exterior color change...price?

Yea, it will never turn out right. You can't bake the panels properly after the car has been assembled. Plus some plastic parts are painted off-line. You need to use flex on certain parts like bumpers and lowers. To properly spray the engine compartment, you would have to remove the drivetrain. You should remove the weatherstripping to paint behind it, and you might damage some, so be prepared to replace some or all of it. Getting panels repaired after an accident is unavoidable, but it wouldn't be a good idea to do the whole car on purpose.

Plain & simple it's just not worth it...it's way tooo much $ to have it done completely right and if you dont do it right it will actually depriciate the value of your car. My .02
