Replacing Rear Tailight Bulb - sorry if this is too basic a question.

I searched the "how to", didn't find one on simply replacing the tailight bulb after getting the warning light that it's out - left rear. Owner's manual (2005 S4) actually says to take to dealer for replacement. I know probably not to touch xenon bulb replacement in front, but rear taillight bulbs?

Anyway, I uploaded a picture of the rear bolt/screw you see that appears to hold in the left taillight assembly in my "photoalbum" - http://www.audizine.com/forum/album....694&pictureids[]=2337&pictureids[]=2338. If you simply unscrew this bolt, does the assembly pull forward and provide easy access to replace bulbs?

Can you get the replacement bulb at Kragen or autozone, or is this a "dealer" part like the front wiper blades? Thanks in advance.

You could get the parts at autozone.the rear bulbs are simple and you could touch them with your hands, but try and wipe them off after they are in so the grease from your fingers don't heat up the bulb too much.

wasn't able to pull up your pic but, there is one bolt that holds the taillights on per side. Open trunk, on the side next to your taillight thats carpeted towrads the top you will find a carpeted cap. Use a flat head screwdriver popping it open, just get underneath it and it will come loose. Under that cap is a screw, you can use a philips head for this one. Unscrew it and pull out the screw, might have to use a needle nose to get it totally out. Now, the only thing holding your taillight on is a ruberised guide on the opposite side of the tail light from which you pulkled the 1 screw. Just take both hands and firmly pull out towards you, should come out pretty easy. Once the light housing is off the car there are going to be a set of wires going to the back of the housing. There are two tabs, pull up on them and wiggle the lights out. They (mutiple lights,I think 5)will come out in one big section.Replace the one that is burnt and re-install. Hope this helps. Chris

Thankx Monchici, I thought I could just unscrew that screw but wanted to double check since I don't have a workshop manual.

Yes, undo that screw and the whole assembly pulls out. BE CAREFUL NOT TO DROP THE SCREW IN THE SPACE BETWEEN THE TRIM.

You will never see it again, it will rattle and drive you insane if it does not shimmy out and you will be sad.
