Basic chip questions. Just want to make sure i didn't forget anything.

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I've had my car for over a year and a half and I think it is FINALLY time to get it chipped!

This is what I am hoping to order:

    710n
    injectors
1+ flash (not sure on brand yet, whose having a sale?)

Aside from intake/exhaust, what else do I need?

I know I should do exhaust and intake to get the full potential out of it, but I just don't have the funds to do it all at once.
Any idea on what gains would be without these? I've never seen a dyno or anything from a car that didn't have the supporting mods.

The big question is, will I be able to keep up with my buddies stock B7? (2.0, 6speed, quattro, sedan) I don't need to beat him, we don't race, just keep up on the way to Tahoe!

    Thanks audizine!

    ^^

Well that's good news at least.

Thanks onceover! I forgot all about coilpacks! Are the Revision R the best(least fail prone) ones out there?

Go with Revo if you're thinking of going BT later. If not, then go with whomever is closest to you. If you go APR then be sure that you get the correct injectors because there are a couple that will not work with APR.

Re: Basic chip questions. Just want to make sure i didn't forget anything.

I'm in the SF/Bay Area so there seems to be local support for all brands. I was thinking to order/ship ECU/install myself... unless someone has some reason not to. Seems straightforward enough.

I can't imagine that I'll ever be going past 1+
It's a valid concern, but in all likelihood, I'd just get a faster starting point to build a fast car out of. If I get bored, I can add an intake or exhaust. Maybe k04 if my turbo craps out down the road, and that is a big maybe.

I just want a fun peppy street car, nothing serious. This is my DD so ease/reliability are primary concerns.

I was thinking TT 386 injectors from classifieds here (they seem to come up regularly) or manyugen.

youre going to ship your ECU?

does anyone even do that anymore?

just go to your local tuner and get your ecu flashed. takes 40 minutes

APR does overnight shipping to/from included in price I think.
I assume other companies do shipped option as well?

One local APR dealer quoted me $115 to flash ecu (+cost of software) Seems like I do it myself and get half way to lowering springs.

You dont need an intake, unless you want the sound.

Coilpacks, spark plugs, and umm thats all I can think of right now.

may want to upgrade your motor mounts. i highly suggest 034's mounts. but at minimum, do yourself a favor and upgrade the snub mount. only like 35 bucks.

If you want APR have u tried Streetwerke in Palo Alto close to Stanford University and the Fry's Electronics store.

That's where I got mine done. No crazy flash cost included. I went APR Stage 1, bought injectors and went back for the Stage 1+ for free... well almost free; I went during lunch and planned to change the injectors in the parking lot & then get flashed but the motor was too damn hot so I paid them a half hr labor to blow cool the motor and swap the injectors and it was still close to an hr cause the motor was sooo damn hot (probably summertime heat to blame).

Click below for website and number PM me if u want more info I'm right up the freeway in Hayward

Anyone else have a shop they can recommend in the Oakland area?

    berkeley, sf, alameda...

Any flash companies doing sales right now? I missed out on the sales last fall. =(

Re: Basic chip questions. Just want to make sure i didn't forget anything.

Hey bud you might have a better response if you posted in the regional forum.
Being a fellow Bay area AZer, I noticed that Revo is having a sale on their serial port switches

    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=252318

As for choosing the company, it really depends on your future plans with the car. If you have Revo, you can upgrade to a Big Turbo down the line (GT28rs to the 3076R) for only $200 more. (so $700+tax). The $500 you spend on the inital software will be credited towards any other software if you choose so. Now there are some other options including GIAC, APR which are all awesome.

My experience with Will @ Emotion Garage has been awesome. He does not respone to phone calls, but I believe he still offers software with appointments. I paid $500 for my stage 1 then $75 for the big injector upgrade. I bought my own injectors from USRT, and installed them myself on the parking lot. However, to go stage 1+, you will need a FMIC, Exhaust basically all supporting mods or your engine may go kaboom!!

Re: Basic chip questions. Just want to make sure i didn't forget anything.

-Upgrade your Diverter Valve, the stock won't be able to handle the extra boost you'll be making and will fail sooner than on stock boost. If you wanna save some cash you can go with one from a TT or spend the 100-200 bucks on a brand new one. Forge is a good company to go through.

-Like others have said, keep spare coilpacks. I went with the Revision R's in June and haven't had a problem since. Try to change them all at once if you do go through with it.

-Expect faster than normal clutch wear also (actually on the whole engine), especially if you'll be doing launches and stuff (which I know you will be, cause the car is so much more fun afterwards ;) )

Sorry if I scare you a bit, I'm not trying too. Just wanna make sure you enjoy you "new" car successfully. It'll be a blast, no doubt.

    Good Luck

not necessary but you could also consider adding a new snub mount and turbo inlet pipe to go along with the new power upgrade

Hey man I regulary go through Oakland during the weekends. (Live in 925 tho)You are more than welcome to check out my setup. cant really do hard launches tho since I am in need of a new clutch. My mods thus far are Revo 1+/Genesis 380CC/Racetec FMIC/Forge SplittR/ Forge TIP/ 2.5" testpipe tp custom 2.5" Magnaflow catback exhuast. along with other non engine mods...

And I can sell you my extra 710N for $20 if you want it. It was used like 10k miles. I haven't really tuned my car since the FMIC install, but I do have a SPS 3 laying around.....

^^^Oh yes Griffen in Berkley on San Pablo after University Ave is where I get my alignments done good guys. I think they're a Revo dealer. They used to carry GIAC but the owner said he didn't like it cause it ran off the knock sensor a little too much for his liking.

Not really bad for ur engine just bad for ur ego when u get beat off the line...jk The ECU knows what to do... it retards timing and the result is MAJOR loss of power after about... ohhhh 4300rpm or so; enough for an old Benz 230 Kompressor to kick ur butt. Might not notice it right away in this cold winter air though its no deal breaker. Just get to it when u can.

Everyone has a brand favourite for chip tunes. I really dig my Unitronic, but go with whoever is closest to you and from whom you get the best vibe. As well, think about if you plan to eventually go BT or > and then tune accordingly in the first place.

Intake is not necessary < 400 hp.

And I can sell you my extra 710N for $20 if you want it. It was used like 10k miles. I haven't really tuned my car since the FMIC install, but I do have a SPS 3 laying around.....

I'd gladly take your extra 710n off your hands!

Where in the 925 are you? I used to live out in Orinda.

I'd love to take a ride in your car. I've never actually ridden in a tuned audi. None of my friends do anything with their cars, and I am always out of town when GTG's happen.... And no worries on the hard launches, I don't live my life 1/4 mile at a time. =)

90% of my driving is in traffic or on city streets. All I'm looking for with my car is something that stock-ish feeling around town and that I can enjoy on a trip to the snow or up the coast.

    Good Luck
How much more boost can be expected with stage 1, and also stage 1+ off of stock turbo? I know that stock makes a 8-10 spike with 6-8 being constant

It think chipped boost is something like spike 21, hold 18ish.

Lets just say it peaks 22-24 but as far as holding boost, the k03 doesnt do much of that LOL. I will say this, my stage 1+ isn't the fastest thing, hell most cars including civics are much faster. But the drivability of the car is greatly improved, as well as the throttle response, and the mid range torque def feels good for daily driving.

We can do GIAC 1+ for you if you ship your ECU to us and we'll over night it back. We can get you the injectors and the Forge 007 DV that you'll probably need. Let me know!

    i loved it!

I have to say though, I was equally impressed with the lowered look. I had convinced myself that my car was fine where it was height wise, but it looked like a monster truck compared to yours! springs are in my near future!
