After doing some research and using the "SEARCH" button i understand i have to replace this brain. stealership wants a fortune. ECS tuning wants $989 and some people go to shokan...

when i thought i fixed/replaced everything on the car... haha it never ends.

keep trying the connectors...unplug and re-plug...wiggle

I have never heard of anyone actually needing the computer itself...but if you indeed really do need it, A&P seems to be the best place for anything you have to but dont want to buy (stock parts)

I just bought a programmer from alpha-bid to clear that exact error on my airbag controller. Worked perfectly, and it was only 50-60 bucks. Look for it on Ebay.

look under the front driver's seat.
find the purple and yellow connector.
open up, and clean connector with electronics cleaner.
re-connect harness and zip tie it as tight as possible.

clear codein vagcom and you're good to go

^^^^ Fault is for "internal check sum error" in the airbag module. Meaning the 2 circuit boards inside the module don't see eye to eye anymore and if erased the fault will eventually come back.

My airbag light was on for a while and it was my passenger side seat airbag, and all I did was push the plug in and reset the light!
It can happen if the push the seat back to far to fast( it pulls out the plug)

i realize that. BUT, when i had my B5, i had like 4 different airbag codes that were all over the car. one being the module. i ziptied the driver's side connector tight and the airbag light(or codes) never came back.

it's an easy/quick fix that might solve his main problem. might as well try it before spending more $$$$ right.....

If the airbag light would prevent you from passing an E-Check station, then I would fix it.

Otherwise pull the bulb and don't worry about it. My "AIRBAG" light has been on since I bought my car. I need a driver's buckle switch and I forget what else. Basically, I just deal with it. As soon as I tried to fix it, the CEL came on. I'll just leave one fault in there, so it doesn't think it needs to add more.

ha yeah i did that and the moment i started the car again it came right back on. never went away. i tried all the plugs and re seating them and not moving any seats anymore and it just wont go away. I honestly dont care about the light, but you know, if it was an easy fix id have it done.

I read the DIY on how to get to it and it looks like i need to take out the radio which i dont have the tools so ill prolly end up making my own and seeing if i run across a used one or maybe someplace can rebuild it? who knows...

Re: I get to spend mooore money now!!

Wow. I gave you the fix for that error a few posts back. You do not need to remove the module.
    Buy this. http://www.alpha-bid.com/product74.html
Plug into the odbII port. Press erase. Wait 15 seconds while it reprograms your module.
Save 700 bucks on a new module, the hassle of installing it, and enjoy a functioning airbag system.
Hell, drive to Portland and I will do it for you.
