So for all the B5 A4 owners that have had their OEM Fog light tabs broken, here's a fix. I wanted to retain my stock OEM Fog lights, but due to an accident, the tabs on the passenger side were broken, and instead of dishing out money to get it replaced, I made a DIY for fixing it.
Materials Needed:
- Needle Nose Pliers
- Vice Grips or another set of Needle Nose Pliers
- Diagonal Cutters
- Wire Coat Hanger (you'll be cutting this up)
- JB Weld or Super Glue (i trust JB Weld over Super Glue)
- Ruler
- Masking Tape
*NOTE: I AM IN NO WAY RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY INJURY OR DAMAGE THAT OCCURS TO YOU, OR YOU VEHICLE FROM FOLLOWING THIS DIY.
The Infamous Broken Tabs
So first, we're going to use the diagonal cutters and cut the wire coat hanger into two smaller segments. Here's a picture (my brackets are already made in the picture--middle of picture)
After cutting those segments, follow the diagram/measurements below. Please note that you may need to mess around with it to get everything made. The measurements are not 100% correct. The measurements were eyeballed using a ruler (if that makes any sense)
Afterwards, we're going to mock up where the new brackets will have to sit, and we will use the masking tape in this step to mock everything up.
After everything is setup and mocked out, take that JB weld and jb weld those pieces together. Let it sit over night before using the fogs. I am going to paint the brackets/JB Weld Black AFTER IT DRIES. You may choose to paint the bracket before or after.
I don't have any images of the fogs on the car with this fix yet, as I am still waiting for the JB weld to set overnight. And if you notice from the pictures, I tore apart the entire housing to do this, as I am planning to do the HID Fog upgrade.
