Do I have an aftermarket Chip on my S4?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I recently purchased a used '05 B6 S4 from the dealer. The sales guy mentioned that he thought the car had a chip module installed. It sure feels like in when I put it in Sport mode. There is a major difference in the power curve and throttle response. I want to check for myself what kind of chip I have installed. Will someone please tell me where the chip would be installed and how I will now if it is an aftermarket chip?

It's stock. Sport mode just feels that way.

Mine was chipped when I bought it but I could not tell the difference between off and on.
Sport mode is a lot more aggressive than D and you will notice there but as far as chip goes I doubt you can tell.

So, are you saying that sport mode on an S4 is more than simply changing the shifting pattern? The throttle seems to be very aggressive right off the line and the car appears to have more power? Is this the case? I'm talking about a very noticable difference between D and S. Still would like to know where the chip module is installed so I can check it out?

People are telling you to rev it to redline and see where it shifts for a reason. Its the easiest way to tell if the car has been "chipped." Even if you took a look at the ECU chances are you wouldn't visually see anything because companies like APR "chip" their cars through the factory scan port under the driver side of the dash. More often than not, the ecu is never touched so there would be no way to visually tell...

The difference between normal mode and S mode is night and day. You will not be bale to tell if your car is chipped by looking at anything because tuning is now done via software programming. There is no hardware to install when our cars are, as people like to call it, "Chipped".

You can rev it to redline and see if the limiter kicks in and bounces your rpm needle.
