    WTB: opinions on my situation...

    ok heres my conundrum:

my clutch is on its way out, not slipping yet but theres the engagement point keeps getting higher and higher, getting tough to get into first/reverse especialy when cold and whatnot, so transmission needs some work.

in about 4-6 months im going to be installing a new 2.0 engine im working on, and i wanted to do the clutch then. however im not sure its going to last the winter, and also i kinda wanted to have it broken in before i put a new engine in there so i dont have to baby the clutch for 1k miles and try and tune the engine at the same time.

if im doing the clutch im going to pull out the engine and trans in one shot just because its easier for me that way and i dont have a lift. what im having a hard time deciding on is this:

do i pull the engine and trans out now, put the clutch in, reinstall everything, break in the clutch, then take that engine out and move the clutch to the new engine and put the whole thing back in the car?

or do i just put a new clutch on the new engine and do it all at once. its alot less work this way, however im not sure which way is best. i just dont want to have to drive the car like a baby for 1k miles while its new and not tuned right.

    what yall think? thanks.

few weeks? i drive 35 miles round trip to work, and about 18k miles per year. if im specificly trying to break a clutch in i could probably do it in a few days if i didnt have work.

That's definitely a tough one, I had to sleep on it. If you don't think the clutch will last the winter, I'd just do it now. Coupled with the fact I wouldn't want to drive 1k without a decent tune.

1000 mile? There is no reason to need that many miles to break in a clutch. Some clutch disks out there need very little time and even a Kevlar disk can be broken in just 1 days drive if done correctly. Some race clutch setups need absolutely no break-in period.

well mike its probably going to be one of your southbend stage 4 or 5's. i got a guy interested in the clutch i have so i can go ahead and order the correct one. if you think i can break that in fairly quickly then il hold off and see if i can get this thing thru the winter.

Shouldn't need too much time to break in either of those.
