Got a roof rack. Still deciding what fork bike mount to put on. Getting my bike this week so I have to decide on this quick.
So far im stuck between the Thule echelon fork mount or the yakima sprocketrocket fork mount.
Please list pros and cons of each if possible. Thanks guys.
    Much appreciated.

    Re: For avid cyclist.

I went with the fork mount style from audi, I believe it was made by Thule for audi and it works great. No comments on the others but someone may chime in that has those.. enjoy...

both options you listed are excellent. But i have to ask if you have considered Rocky Mounts? I have been using these racks for ~10yrs and they are top notch quality, local Colorado company and cost much less than Yakima or Thule. They are designed and sold by cyclists. You can get 2 rocky mounts for the price of 1 Yakima Sproket rocket

Get a fork mount; having the bike up there via frame mount just looks silly imho.

    Re: For avid cyclist.

i have both fork mount and full bike racks. (fork mount yakimas on my honda and oem barracudas on my audi) I have some pics in my gallery of the OEM towers with my bike rack. Barracudas are cool cuz it keeps the dirty tires out of the car. Looks ok with the mountain bikes, but looks funky when I put my road bike up there.

I prefer the fork mount though.

Same here, I have to Thule fork mount rack. Works well for XC bikes, don't think I'd want to test my DH bike on it though, but it does work well for bikes under 30lbs. & is sleek-looking when there is no bike on it.

    Re: For avid cyclist.

yes your bike will work in any of the mentioned racks. My wife rides Waterfords and I ride Carl Strongs and we have never had any problem with either any yak, thule or rocky mount with a road bike. the only time you will have trouble is with a DH bike, canondale lefty or certain disc brake combo's. None of which you have.

    Re: For avid cyclist.

I actually went a set of fork mount racks from BMW and then covered up the BMW logos. They work great and i trust them more then the Audi ones as my brother has the BMW ones on his truck and we loved them.

    Re: For avid cyclist.

Given that I really baby my roadbike, it gets to live in the back of the Avant to protect it from rain and road debris (yes I am that paranoid). Wheel bags and velcro straps to keep the frame from moving when I'm cornering and a few old towels to dust it down or dry it before the return journey.

The mountain bikes get to go up top 'cos they are always dirty anyway - I have the standard Audi mounts (frame arm) and have had no problems with them in terms of stability and ease of use...

    Re: For avid cyclist.

I use 2 of the Thule fork mount (whatever the hell its called). It holds everything from my 19lb road bike to my 45lb mountain bike with no problems. Really durable, really sturdy. I've also heard good things about the Rocky Mounts as well, so those'll probably be fine. I would use a fork mount as opposed to a frame mount though, just my two cents
