GIAC X finally installed w/ 710n and tested! UPDATE!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
i was finally able to put the 710n on today and the car woke up from deep sleep! Giac is crazy agressive through all the gears, such a drastic improvement over stock. I didnt run it that much but i did a few highway runs and 0-60s and i was impressed. This was my first time flashing a car and this is my second b5. I highly recommend a giac-x for those with a '00-01 1.8tqm. I also want to thank a member "Enclave" for hooking it up with such a great deal, $185 shipped!!!! For now, my a4 is just right as far as power goes, but i will open it up more with a catback turbo exhaust sometime this spring. Until then, i will continue with the exterior/interior mods! GIAC-X

    Re: GIAC X question

Maybe not violently, but I thought it was normal for it to kinda shudder on the first startup, and then you let it idle without giving it any throttle so it can adapt?

    Re: GIAC X question

I'm bored today man lol. It did this when I replaced my MAF, and I was told to let it sit and idle for a few minutes and DO NOT touch the gas pedal during this few minutes. Once it all kind of smooths out (it shouldn't be bucking and shuddering anymore) you should be fine to drive it.

    Re: GIAC X question

I would say it is your plugs. Did you change the gap on them upon installation of the new ECU? Maybe you need to find a suitable gapping as there are people whom do not like the .028" gap. Some people gap at .030" and so forth on a flashed ECU. I use Bosch F6DTC (pregapped) and have no issues.

When I got my ECU flashed, I placed my plugs and dv in before getting flashed. And I do not recall any shudder after install. We even took it around the block to see how much boost I would run no more than 2 min after flashing it

    Re: GIAC X question

But would the gapping on the plugs make a difference if the ECU is chipped when it's just at idle? I thought that would only make a noticeable difference during boost...

    Re: GIAC X question

Handheld switch via OBD II port (slopoke has one for sale in his sig). But plugs can grant any car a bad idle. On throttle is a different scenerio.

    Re: GIAC X question

You will be ok for a day on your stock dv. Just don't do too many WOT runs trying to hit that 22psi spike. And I suggest the Bosch F6DTC plugs. I mainly run them because Mike Hood runs them. Then I learned of how many others do also. They are good for stock and BAT applications. Plus they can run for ~25k before needing change.

But new plugs and a dv is a must upgrade.

It might be on the stock program. I've havnt run that ECU for a whole year because I've been on a standalone.

    Re: GIAC X more questions!!!!

Uninstall it from your hard drive . Maybe you can call up GIAC and inquire if it will work for the AWM ECU. Or if there is a program that they have for free that does.

That link http://www.giacusa.com/flashloader_handheld.php works with it. Just install it, plug it into the OBDII port, hit Read, should allow you to choose either Stock or Pump. The mode it is in will be highlighted green. Make sure you hit read again to check that the change went through.

Also while your at it, clear the any codes that might be on it.

Could be dying coilpacks. Had a similar issue where it missed while mashing the gas in 4th gear at low rpm. I swapped the last 2 old coilpacks and everything is fine now.

    I wouldn't fight through a misfire.
Is your CEL flashing when it happens? Plugs gapped correctly? If one is off gapped, it can screw up your coil pack.

As for 4.0 FPR no reason to do it-the flash is designed to run on a 3 bar.

Can't hurt to change your fuel filter, etc. Always good to keep up to date on these parts.

No CEL What so ever Never Flashes or anything, as for plug the gaps are all correct it ran fine on the hotter plugs?? which i don't get

Its weird how it runs fine after like 15 mins of driving? then goes away? idk its just annoying and yes i let it warm up and everything.

So my GIAC ecu came in a two days earlier than i was expecting (was scheduled for Friday 1/2/09) to be dropped at my house, but I came home to find this small little box and was like O.O haha

have the GIAC + Bosch 710n and OMG. Its godly better than earlier, though i JUST got full boost for the first time yesterday since buying the car (swapped the K03 for a K03s and found the wastegate linkage had snapped on the K03, so i was getting no boost) but GIAC + K03s is amazing.

Re: GIAC X finally installed w/ 710n and tested! UPDATE!

I remember a thread before on the k03 vs k03s. Even though the fins on the turbine wheels is different, I read that the reason the k03s has 20 more hp over the k03 was due to slightly bigger injectors (in other words, the AEB w/k03 uses different injectors than the ATW and AWM w/k03s). Might want to look into it as it may grant you a couple more ponies, but do more searching as you don't want to mess up your A/F (don't know how the tune would run with different injectors).

Second opinion on this matter for confirmation would be appreciated, for clarity. Thanks!

I agree, ko3s and giac-x help a lot. Its like a different car now, the 1.8t should have been given more turbo boost coming out of the factory originally. I'm not sure how much I'm boosting since I dont have a gauge yet, what do you spike at? Also you should look into the ko3 v ko3s swap like said above, you might not be running to full potential of the ko3s.

Re: GIAC X finally installed w/ 710n and tested! UPDATE!

I swapped the k03 for the k03s as when I did my front mount I found a crap load of oil and the turbo was bad. A lot of shaft play so a friend of mine swapped to a k04 and had his k03s lying around. Got it for 100 with 65k miles on it. Took it to the stealership and everything was fine on the turbo and so I ended up with a k03s haha

Edit: as for my peak, no idea. I have a vdo gauge ready to be installed but waiting for the new fitting + line t measure the boost

and i filled the tank up on Premium today (after filling up, noticed that its 92 octane) now would the difference of 1 octane cause the car to shake while in full boost a little bit? (sorry to thread jack, NorCal)
