Cracked the oil pan on the A4 today..kinda sucks. Just wondering if how many of you guys have replaced the pan and how you went about finding a new one stealership, yard, etc. Just trying to find the cheapest option.

    Re: Cracked my oil pan

had the same thing happen to me real early when I got my car like a month after I got the car in fact, I got a new oil pan from EBAY for like $80 and it turned out it was for a B6 not a B5 well I couldnt return it because it was a 7 day money back warranty I was a day late. Well then I found out that I had to do a lot of work to get it out so in my rush to get driving again I drained the oil and JB welded the crack, yeah I know it was dumb but it held for a few months no problems then it started dripping a little a small drip so I just got it replaced. but you know I am sure it would have held with a little maintenance and some new JB weld. Bottom line just JB weld it if it's not too bad like a hair line crack like I had otherwise just get one on EBAY or ask AP specialists they should have one, and they cant be more then $80.

get a used oil pan and change it. unless you want your jb weld to come off on the road, loose all oil pressure, and destroy your motor.

I'm in the Philly area, I have a spare pan for a 2001 1.8T NIB if you want it. I'll check my receipts to see what I paid, it was slightly north or 80.00 though. I have it now you van pick it up on Sunday or swing by ASP where I will be all day 12/20/2008 and grab it. Another option which would involve waiting would be used from car-parts.com

Oh man where were you guys with those eBay links when I cracked mine? I bought one off MJM for $125. It was a huge PITA to swap them, you have to drop the subframe and raise the motor by loosening the mounts, not a fun task when you're working on the street outside your house.

jb weld is perfectly fine for small cracks. you're hardly going to loose all your oil and oil pressure through a hairline crack.

jb weld is quick and simple to use. much easier and cheaper than replacing the pan all for one crack.

just regularly check the oil level and status of the weld and you will be good to go until you get it fixed later on

i hear what your saying, OR you can just fix it right, and not worry about your oil levels. that's all i was saying.

    Re: Cracked my oil pan

Well all I had was a hair line crack, that was dripping a bit so after a few days without moving the car I would get a small spot on the floor I was not sure why so I checked lines for hours until I noticed that the oil was coming out of the oil pan it self I had to lay there for like 30min until I saw a drip fall, so I looked online for an oil pan blablabla wrong one JB weld it bam fixed for over 6 months until I got it fixed and not because of any problems just thought I should fix it.

well you should be regularly checking fluid levels in your car anyways. so it's not like it's extra work. and it's not hard or time consuming at all. takes less than 1 minute to do.

all im saying is you are just wasting time and money at that point. if there is a simpler and cheaper way to achieve the same results, then why not take it.....
