a very BIG problem for an S5 lover

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi everyone,
I placed an order for a 2009 Audi S5 about a month ago. I've been nagging my dealer for a arrival time for weeks now and he estimates 4-6 months. Over the past few weeks i've been thinking if its really worth it?

Is buying a 60K car and waiting almost half a year worth it? When right now i can pay a little more than 5K for an M3? Or even perhaps a C63 AMG? How about a the world's fastest production sedan the Cadillac CTS-V?

Then it hits me, why am i waiting so long when my local BMW and MB dealer all have these on their lots? This is were it gets complicated for me.

For the lucky S5 owners out there, is it truly worth waiting the extra 4-6 months for an S5? (Value for money) The cost - value ratio has got me stumped.

Thank you SO very much for your time,

    Wes

I would buy an S5 from a dealer that has one in stock. I prefer the look of the S5 over any other german vehicle in it's class, but I am not sure that I would wait 6 months for one. At least not for the original price.

why not ask ur sales to see if they have any cars at other dealerships? i believe they can do dealer trades.. but i personally would take the c63 but what holds me back is that alot of old ladies drive it.... so it would be mighty awkward when u pull up beside one with an old lady

There's no way I would wait that long for a S5. By the time you get your car it'll be just a couple more months before the new S4 will be available.

I think that some cars are worth waiting for ... an S5 is a very nice car ... but I dont know if its worth the wait. So ask yourself this question .... do you really want to stand out ... I mean ... yeah you can go buy these other cars at the dealerships .. but are you just gonna be another *m3 or C63* on the the road .... Its ultimately gonna be your descision... but if your gnna pay that much money ... it would be nice to be one of the *few* in the state ... or the country for that matter. Anyways thats my 2 cents.

Re: a very BIG problem for an S5 lover

I beleive its worth waiting for. The S5 is much more unique and rare compared to the M3 or C63. I think the interior is much better and the curb appeal is superior. If I were in the market for a new $60k car it's exactly what I would get, and I would order it so I could get it with the exact features/colors I wanted. (If I could not find one I liked on a dealer lot)

The C63 is a sedan and different flavor. The M3 a coupe and more performance focused. Both RWD if that matters or not, and both faster than an S5. But overall, I think I'd enjoy the S5 better, so I'd wait for it.

Don't know how far you want to look but a local dealer up here has two on the lot.

    One Black with a 6-speed $62k

One Silver with an Auto $57.5k

S5's are scattered all of the place and can be had at much better prices than a custom order.

On a side note my mom waited 6 months back in '97 for an C5 A6. It was worth the wait for her. Neverhtheless, she tried getting one at the dealer, but they F'ed the car up pulling out of the showroom.

I'm fairly certain this isn't a very BIG problem. If you love it, wait. If you don't, get an M3 (not a CTS)

Well if it is the car you really want it will be worth the wait to get it. If not the M3 and C63 AMG are both beautiful cars but as of now I think the s5 is one of the most beautifully designed cars out there.

ok, here is the deal. I don't own a S5 but I drove one 6speed on the track and saw a few in person.

S5 is dead gorgeous, it is so beautiful that you think the car worth 120K maybe not that much. the LED Daytime Running Lights attract so much attention.

in my school(now Bentley University), I see many M5, 1 E92 M3, 2 black MB C63 AMG, I am just like, meh, sounds good but looks nothing special. this is not a biased opinion.
S5 is special, it's not as fast or agile as the M3, C63, or the CTS-V, if you are not a power hungry MOFO, S5 is your choice.

and don't forget quattro... you can use an s5 as a DD easily. A matter of fact I saw one, right after I saw an RS4 driving through the 6" of snow we're getting today! I was realllly jealous.

couldn't have put it any better myself.

s5's are show stoppers. There have been multiple times when I have been on a road and something catches my eye (but I can't see the car perfectly), and it has ended up being an s5.

M3's don't stand out that much from 335's to me, and the c63, while amazing, isn't all that special aesthetically, either. The lights, the stance, the body lines, and the class it exudes are next to NOTHING.

And just to tide you over a little bit more...

Its your money so its up to you.

Personally I would get a M3 or something else.
Around where I live I see A5's and S5's at least 1 once a day I know a bunch of people that have them. Yes the car looks great on the road and you notice it right away. I would get a TT-S if I was you. Come out cheaper.

Re: a very BIG problem for an S5 lover

In my area, all three german option are readily available; at prices much cheaper than MSRP. I have recently test them, too.

I was disappointed in the look of the M3- but a fun car to drive. Nevertheless, if I went with BMW I would go with the 335i hard top cab; & bank the difference

The C36 is fun but IMHO-ugly.

After diving a S5 auto...I loved everything about the car! After driving the non-quattro car I was realized how much I like AWD...my b6 S4(first Audi or AWD car) is so fun to drive.

In this market I would never pay MSRP; I wouldn't ever wait 6 months for privilege of giving someone money- but I would buy an S5 in a minute. In fact, I just waiting out any of the 5 local Audi dealer until they accept under invoice

Any car dealer wants/needs my money a lot more than I need a S5, so, I think sometime soon I'm going to go in that direction myself.
    Good luck!

FWIW: I think we should all be thankful that we have these kind of problems!

    Peace .

As I'm sure you know invoice is not what they pay for the car....AOA is giving dealers money back; inventory tax time is comming too. For qualified buyer's there are deals at all dealerships that seemed impossible 6 months ago! At least in the Bay Area...

When the values of houses & 401k's are droping like a rock I, like a lot of other hard working people, am no longer going to buy anything at the old prices.

Just be patient and wait for your order. I waitied 5 months for mine and I work for Audi, but it was 100% worth it. The way Audi is moving right now your wait may be shorter than you think

What "hot" 135i do you want coupe or cab? There are numerous examples available in the Bay Area.

It gets to the point where I'm unfairly turned off to all BMWs because of how common they are. I've seen so few A/S5s that I can count it on one hand.

I'm excited to get my hands on one in the future.

Not on the S5. Audi hasn't put out anything in the way of incentives on the A5/S5.

I stand corrected on the AOA money; however, it is just a matter of time! Local dealerships are at 2k below MSRP, now. When 4th quater GDP numbers come out, I predict I will get the price I want. If not, i guess i will just have to suffer with my S4...LOL

In the Bay Area I've seen three times the number of S5's at Dealerships, than i have on the road? I've seen more GT3s, too!

Tommy, you work for Audi, so you must have bought your car at much lower price than MSRP. In that case, I guess it is worth waiting. S5 is a very nice car, but I don't think I would wait 6 months.

    yakendo,
How much do u reckon you could get a new S5 for given the current market?

    Thanks

    NY777,

Any alternatives in your book? What would you get in place of an S5 if you had to wait 4-6 months?

    Thanks

    Wes Z,

I would look for a different dealer which has S5 in stock. If I had to wait, I would get a TTS or I wouldn't even buy one.

I wouldn't buy a used S5 or TTS. Especially luxury cars which used to be owned by people working for dealerships. They can buy luxury cars at much lower price than MSRP, 40-60% of MSRP, and a few years later they can sell their luxury cars at higher price than they actually paid. They make a profit and buy another luxury car. Don't you think it is unfair? I envy them.

I have seen at least 6 in stock between my two local dealers. They are out there for the picking now. Is there some reason that you are tied to your dealer?
