Burning smell thru the air vents

Anyone have a almost something liquid burning smell come out of their vents occasionally? When im driving with the auto temp at 70 deg, and the re-circulate button off I get this weird smell that creaps in. For a while i thought it was outside exhaust from other cars but then the same smell keeps appearing. It goes away when i put the re-circulate button on and im fine but then the windows fog up. Kinda a paint, checked under the hood and nothing seems to be leaking. Anyone have this issue? Be it oil, trans fluid, etc...

Valve cover gaskets. Common. Cheap fix.

How do you explain the intermittent smell. And how easy is this fix?

HOLY S**T, I turned on the car yesterday and brought my trusty flashlight to check under the hood and what do you know, there is smoke rising from the front left side of the engine. So there is definitely a leak as it is the same smell coming from the vents. I thing someone hit it on the valve cover gasket point. Taking it to the dealership on 15th to get it taken care of with the blown seat heater.
