Question Griding noise around 3100 rpms, turbo going bad??

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I start hearing that after i ran straight pipes for a week, i fixed my exhaust and it still doing that. Cant really hear it before 3000 rpm and not really after 3200 rpm. sounds like some metal griding or bouncing, coming from left side of engine. Also i installed test pipe past saturday and made sure nothing was loose.

Any ideas what it might be?

Left side? Passenger or driver side?

    Probably should record it.

^that would be passenger - aka right side. (for future reference.)

did you get a custom exhaust made? make sure it's not rubbing on the subframe. i bottomed out my car awhile ago (bent the exhaust a little bit) and it's making the same noise in the same general RPM range. (mine is more like 4000-4200, but you get the point).

i just cut out a section of tread from a used tire at work and tucked it around the exhaust between it and the subframe and it fixed the noise... but then when i took my turbo off the other week to change gaskets (well.. remove them) i forgot to put it back in place. lol

Re: Griding noise around 3100 rpms, turbo going bad??

i just went out there with a friend to check it and record on video, but nothing would be coming out of engine bay, but i could hear it very well inside. I think you are right B6Lovin its probably my exhaust pipes, cuz i did install TP and i took off clamp for drag stip. Now clamp is back on but maybe after driving for a week it moved around so much and now making that noise from being bent somewhere.

Maybe its just your turbo spooling :X? Sorry to state hte obvious but, there are some people who arent familiar with what their turbo sounds like, especially after an exhaust install. Do you notice any differences in the way the car drives?

fyi, turbos don't grind. (well, they're not supposed to)

this isn't another "why is my car whistling on accel" thread

yeah i know how my turbo sounds but i think its something else since. I had bolt loosen there on TIP that was rattling i removed it but it still making noise but you cant hear it from the engine anymore, only inside

I had a resonator once that made that noise once all the baffle was burned away.

It was only at a certain RPM too. Sounded very disturbing.
