drive gear is BROKE!!

i have an automatic 98 A4. my car starts and runs fine in park. The reverse gear works fine but when I put the car in drive or 2,3, or 4th gear the car goes no where. I push the pedal down, the rpms go up but the car does not move anywhere i would really appretiate it if you have any information for me or should i just have it towed

Sounds like the tranny is gone.

this is the first time it has happened... drove it last night and everything worked fine... went to drive it this morning and nothing...

I know a buddy of mine had the same problem but it only happened when it was pretty cold outside.

yeah same thing here im in Fargo ND and its been below zero for like the last five days it drove fine the other days but just wouldnt go today do you know what the problem was on his?

Well he wound up getting a new tranny eventually. But before that, he just let his car warm up for like 15-20 mins in the morning and when he did that he never had a problem.

i would say either change the fluid or your torque converter but that normally just doesnt go at random. could it be the shifter is not moving the trans cable and only the light from the magnets is tellin you its in drive?
