A.W.E. Tuning Releases FSI High Pressure Fuel Pump Upgrade!

We're obviously a little late to the game with this new product, but rest assured that is due to thoroughness on our part.

When we undertook this project well over a year ago, we did thorough research into how the OE system worked and how the OE parts were constructed. What we learned told us not to take this project lightly and to not make any assumptions regarding fitment tolerances or manufacturing steps. The last thing we wanted to release was a failure prone product, as the market was already suffering with other designs.

Our in depth testing and Quality Control steps revealed issues we were having with some of our subcontractors. If we had relied solely on the test parts we got from them, we would have released inconsistent and failure prone parts to the public. The problem with QC testing these parts is that they are very high tolerance, and beyond our means to check in house. So we have batches now checked by independent Testing Labs to ensure that what we are ordering is what we are actually getting.

Thankfully we were able to learn these pitfalls and develop our checking system without putting client cars at risk.

We also have taken steps to ensure that whoever is installing these high precision parts is doing it correctly. We designed some special tools that makes the procedure pretty much fool proof and they are included in the kit at no extra charge.

We've also made a comprehensive install video to further reduce the chance of confusion and failure due to installer error:

    http://www.awe-tuning.com/page...P.cfm

We would like to thank the literally hundreds of people to date that have directly inquired about this product. We appreciate your patience and would like to celebrate the launch with a special sale price.

Normal retail pricing on this kit is $399.95

Special Holiday Release pricing is $359.95

Yes, that is a great idea.

For those who do not know, there is a Technical Service Bulletin for most of the 2.0T FSI engines regarding cam and cam follower wear. It is mandatory that these factory parts be examined and verified as good before installing any HPFP.

The Technical Service Bulletin is on our site:

not only does it look like a good product..but that video brought it up a notch. You can't go wrong with this product. The video makes it look so easy to install. The only other questions is how hard is it to get to the fuel pump..or how to get to it? Is this something that should be done at the shop?..or a DIY?

I hate sounding like a newb...but to me that just looks like a couple of q-tips, a vile of honey, a suppository, and a kleenex to clean up afterwards.

Is that all an upgraded fuel pump is? I always thought it was something bigger or something.

a lot of people with stage 2 seem to get fuel cuts. if you get a fuel cut, then the fuel pump should fix that problem as well as give some small gains. looks good awe!

Man I really want to do this upgrade and move on up to Revo Stage 2+!! Seems like there is a lot of power to be had with more fuel.
My main thing is getting the dealership to look at the darn cam lobe and admit that there is a problem. Anyone have any suggestions on how I go about getting this checked?

I hate to cross post to another forum, but this person did a nice write up of the actual pump removal:

    Hey Todd,

I am planning on getting this HPFP for my B7 but I want to knwo forsure with this TSB out do I need to have it check out first?

I called my dealership and they said that they will not check it for free eventhough it is stillunder warranty. It needs to be a recall in order to check and replace if neccesary.

    Is this true?

Unless your car is displaying issues like pressure fault codes, you will not have much chance of getting a dealer to inspect these parts under warranty.

However, you must inspect these parts if you intend to install a HPFP.

If your independent shop takes things apart and find that there is already wear related to this TSB, you have the option of addressing the problems via your independent shop, or putting it all back together and then talking to your dealer.

Unfortunately, you may be back in the same situation where they will not touch the car under warranty until it throws codes. Audi requires the codes to be present before they will allow the dealer to submit it as a warranty claim.

If you find that there is wear present, it is a matter of time before the codes will pop up, but it there is no guarantee how long that will take.

I wish there was a simple answer, but this is the best we can offer, and it applies to all HPFPs on the market.

No. The cam and follower issue cannot be prevented with an aftermarket pump install.

The X-chip works fine within the specs of the stock fuel pump so there are no gains to be seen by adding it. We are working with GIAC to produce a special file that can take advantage of what this pump can produce.

Otherwise, there is standard and special software from other manufacturers that can benefit from the addition of this pump.

It is recommended that owners of all model years inspect these parts for good measure.

Re: A.W.E. Tuning Releases FSI High Pressure Fuel Pump Upgrade!

Is there anyway to speed up the wear process?

That seems really short sighted on Audi's part and just plan stupid. So there is a TSB out for this particle problem and indicates ALL vin codes for the following vehicles yet if this throughs codes and such a few months after warranty expires Im stuck with the bill to replace parts and labour?

Pardon my language but that is the stupidest fucking procedure to help save them money for a poor design to begin with on their part!

So do I get the HPFP or not.........thats my dilema.

AWE says they are working with GIAC to come up with a HPFP file. Be patient, my son.

me too =). Though there is no software available for the HPFP yet when I did install mine before going stg 3 I did feel improvement all throughout mid-range to redline. My car always pulled good when I normally got on it but once I swapped out my stock fuel pump for a HPFP my butt dyno def. felt an improvement and all the fuel cuts I was having was gone (even with a full car w/ the A/C on in the socal summer). It def. is a good investment certainly until you can take full advantage of it when the software is released.

I would be VERY concerned about the fact that adding just a HPFP WITHOUT any respective mapping changes is providing a gain.

It means the current mapping is already beyond a sensible tune. ie: calling more fuel than the oem can provide and leaning out. Hence, fuel cuts and timing being pulled, far from optimal.

It's good that you've added the HPFP but what I'm pointing out is that running that tune without it would not be good for engine longevity...

I never said anything about gaining HP just by putting on the HPFP. I said my "butt dyno" felt my car pull more in mid-range rpm to redline which made it feel faster

Before I put the HPFP in (2~3 months outta the past 2 years of being chipped) I started to experience fuel cuts along with limp mode symptoms, knowing that it is def. due to the cam/cam lobe wear.
I tried multiple times to get the problem warrantied but NO dealership will warranty the problem unless you throw CEL codes for the cam (which I never did).
I then asked my dealer (who is mod-friendly) about changing the cam lobe myself and adding the HPFP if that would atleast solve the fuel cuts/limp mode my car started to go in and they said that might help.
Once I had it installed I was completely happy because as I mentioned earlier it seemed to solve all my problems (I just check it/change it every 5k). Not once did I ever experience a fuel cut/limp mode again.

As for running a HPFP with the stg 2 software I dont see how it can affect the longevity of your engine compare to running it with a sofware that is mapped for the HPFP, NO your car wont be any faster with out the proper software but it will eliminate any fuel cut/limp mode, which as the time is the purpose I intended to buy the HPFP for.

I dont have to worry about that anymore since im Stg 3 anyways.

Ah, ok - on that background, it clearly looks like you had an issue with the cam lobe and/or the oem pump. Replacing it with the HPFP got you back to where it should have been with a healthy fuel supply. And yes, the upcoming HPFP file will no doubt provide further gains.

I must also apologise for my last poorly worded statement in my previous post - one re-reading it, I didn't make sense.

What I was trying to say was that given you claimed (butt-dyno) improvements by adding just the HPFP, I'd be concerned about running that stage 2 software without the HPFP because the fuel mapping was calling more than the OEM pump could provide. That on the assumption that your OEM fuel system was in a healthy state..... which it wasn't.

    All good ! Cheers
