Some Quick Questions About Fluid Changes

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm about to go through and order everything I need for the 55k service, plus a little bit more through ECS for the S4, and was just wondering about some quantities.

    1) Oil: I'm going with Lubro Moly through this site, at 10 liters from what I Understand: http://www.eurosportacc.com/liquimol...nthese_oil.htm

2)Trans: I was going to go with the Redline MT-90 ES#1503, and I thought I read from what someone had posted, it took about exactly 1 gallon, so 4 quarts of it from ECS. (Quantity???)

    3) Diffs: I was also going to use Redline 75W/90 for the differentials. I was wondering how much I'll need though, and how difficult it is to do, or any other information needed. (Quantity???)

    4) Spark Plugs: I went with oem bosch spark plugs from ECS, the set of 8 ES#4539.

    5) Also I got replacement filters such as: Mann - Fuel Filter ES#4998, Hengst - Oil Filter Kit ES#3549, Meyle - Cabin Filter / Fresh Air Filter (300x205x30) Charcoal Lined ES#248463

6)And finally getting the Bently Repair / Service Manual On CD ES#6277, I've been meaning to order it for a while, hadn't gotten around to it.

I already have a hexcan vagcomm cable so I shouldn't have any problems resetting any of the service info. This is the first real major service I've done on the S, (since it's been under warranty up to now and I got it at 39k) so I figured that I'd do everything I'd feel comfortable with, and then have my local shop do anything else that is mentioned in the Bently manual service intervals.

Finally I was looking into using this http://www.amazon.com/Mityvac-7201-F...8&s=automotive to do the oil change as several have mentioned using such a setup, and that it has good reviews. However, I was wondering if the tank is large enough to contain all the oil in one cycle, or if it would take more than one pass to remove all the oil.

Any other suggestion, ideas, tips, or points of interest would be greatly appreciated on the matter. I'm looking forward to getting it all done and knowing that my car is in tip top shape. I feel pretty comfortable with tools, and have already gone exploring in the audi a fair bit, but nothing too serious. Thanks guys, I appreciate the help as always! ! !

What's the mileage recommendation for the plugs I thought it was around a 100k.

I believe it's 55k miles, but most of has been changing them much earlier and noticing a difference. I changed mine at 35k.

Yea, I don't think my plugs have been changed at all yet, and it is on the 55k service list for the 4.2. So does no one really have any input or answers from the first post? I know a lot of you guys do all your maintenance yourself, so I was just trying to get an idea. Thanks

    1. Your good with the oil. Good brand and right amount.

2/3. Not sure about these i havent done so yet.

    4. Your good on those

    5. Everything looks good, although im not sure on the oil filter. Always just used OEM from audi.

    6. I have a couple of friends that rave about that thing, however im not as optimistic. I just dont see how you can get everything out working against gravity. I like doing it the old fashion way. To make things easier under the car cut a hole out under your drain plug so there is no need to remove the belly pan every time you do the oil.

As far as i know though you cannot take it out all in one shot.

    7. Got the Snub Mount yesterday, Thanks a bunch!

    Good luck!

Re: Some Quick Questions About Fluid Changes

The Mityvac says it shuts off at 8 liters, which is less than than the engine oil capacity. With some left in the filter you might be OK, but it is close. I use a Pela 6000 which holds 6 liters, so of course I have to stop and empty. But well worth the convenience. I have removed the drain plug after using an extractor on a couple of cars to confirm that the extractor gets all the oil out-- it does.

While you do the air filter, be sure and pull the intake hose and clean the slush screen. It will invevitably be clogged with leaves and debris. Do the plugs while you have the air filter housing off, it makes it easy to unbolt the coil pack harness on that side.

For the fuel filter, look under the car and make sure you have the right one. There are differing numbers of inlets and outlets.

    Wow, good maintenance list there.

I'm thinking about trying that oil too. I've read very good reviews from some other folks. Please post back reviews if possible of all this stuff once you are done.

I use Pela Pro which holds 14 liters so you don't have stop the extraction.

Re: Some Quick Questions About Fluid Changes

I just asked about the tranny oil over on AW, for a manual it's either 3.2 or 3.5L, apparently--I'm using Motul Gear 300 for mine, but ordered 4 (L) bottles a few days ago.
