What brand of snow tires would you recommend for the stock 18" wheels, and what is a fair cost to change the tires?

    Thanks.

    Re: Snow Tires

Blizzaks! I have em on the Avus's in 235/40/18. They are incredible in the snow, good in the wet, and pretty decent in the dry too. But they shine in the snow.

    Re: Snow Tires

Search for the thread I started about 3weeks ago - quite detailed on snow tires.

Anyhow after much debating between Dunlap M3/3D's, I went with Hankook W300's. 235/18/40 on stock rims - they are amazing and cheap!! I picked mine up for 150ish/tire.

Tomorrow Boston is set to get a foot, I'll let you know.

    Re: Snow Tires

I'm pretty sure the M3's have been replaced by the Dunlop Wintersport 3Ds. That's what I'm running this year and they have been great! I ran blizzacks a couple seasons ago, and the last winters I had where Hancock Icebears. If you don't mind spending the money go with the Dunlops for sure, they are the best winter tire I have even driven and still very nice and noise free when its dry. If you want to save some coin the Hancocks were really very good - great, considering they cost half the money. They were better tires than the blizacks and half the money.

Mount and balance should run you about $100-120 to swap the four tires over.

Is an alignment required if you go -1 or -2 (wheel diameter) from your current setup?

    Re: Snow Tires

Discount Tire will run you about $15 bucks per wheel. Depends on if you're running "winter wheels" or nice wheels. If you're running nicer wheels, avoid Sears and cheapo tire changers. A tuner shop will charge up to $40 per wheel, but might save you some mounting scars.

You can still buy M3's, just not in 235/40/18...unless you buy used.

    Re: Snow Tires

I've owned Nokian WRs and Bridgestone LM-25s. I recently bought W300s. I've driven them at speed on the hwy and in the snow/ice for the past five days. Truly excellent tire for $156 in stock 18" size. Everthing considered, I doubt I'll ever buy anything else.

    Re: Snow Tires

    Nokian. Many choices though.

I'm liking the WRG2 ($254 ea...) and are actually getting to feel them in ice and snow due to the fluke Seattle real winter weather the past few days.

My idea was to have a great winter tire that is also pretty good the rest of the year or at least past and before the winter season.

Second, I got these for free when I bought my car since I have Summers. They work great, at an excellent price point. When the time comes I'll probably go back to Winter Sports.
