Any Pics of 35% tint on B6??

I wanted to get a full tint for my 02 B6, I live in Mass and the tint law is 35% on all windows. So I just wanted to see if anyone had any pics of their tint. Thanks

Slightly OT, but I was surprised to learn that in New York, it is apparently LEGAL to put 30% tint on your windshield.

My car has Johnson Films Silhouette 40%, which is actually ~33% once applied to the glass. It has a grey hue.

I guess I'm confused then. Since the law in NY is 70% all around, then it's illegal to have any real darkening all around, or is everyone using the numbers backward?

Again, the law in NYS is basically you can't have ANY tint on your car.
Factory tint is 70% so anything more than factory is against the law.

5% Tint is like painting your windows with black paint. The lower the percent tint the blacker/darker it is. Percent tint is the percent of light allowed through.

ps. I like the 40% it also seems reasonable enough where you probably wont get stopped for it.

Police in NY suck with window tint I had 20% on my old truck never any problems with the Audi forget about it

Yeah, 70 might as well be seran-wrap, lol. Think of it as the number being the percentage of sun that can get through the window. Obviously, the lower the number, the less amount of sun can get through.

Well, my car had what looks like 35% on when I bought it. I can't believe I've been an outlaw and didn't even know it.

the ny law is so confusing. the way it was explain to me by a cop is that the tint meter cant go below 30% on the front windows and 5% on the rears.

Just a note. A4s (possibly most cars) have about 5-7% natural tint in the glass. So when considering laws and tint meters, remember '35% tint' will really read 28-30% on a meter. So if the state law is 35%, in actuality you need 40-43% tint to stay legal. A good tint shop will make you aware of this and require you to sign a waiver if you choose to tint darker than the state law.

I've got a set of Koni coilovers lined up.. just need to find a spare B6 suspension to put on my car while I put my sport suspension on the car with the Koni's.

So maybe in a few weeks....

Have they changed the limit in MA? When I got mine a few years back I believe it was 27% all around. The shop mentioned as above if I wanted it any lower I would have to sign a waiver and provide the tint, but they'll back me if I was to get a ticket with proof of the tint that was used.

MA law is 35% all around and none on the windshield, aside from a 6 inch strip at the top I believe. Mine read out at 10% a few days ago and I got a warning.

New York Tint Law Enacted: 1991
HOW DARK CAN WINDOW TINT BE IN NEW YORK?

Darkness of tint is measured by Visible Light Transmission percentage (VLT%). In New York, this percentage refers to percentage of visible light allowed in through the combination of film and the window.

Windshield Non-reflective tint is allowed on the top 6 inches of the windshield.
Front Side Windows Must allow more than 70% of light in.
Back Side Windows Must allow more than 70% of light in.
Rear Window Any darkness can be used.


The 70% tint was from 1991. In NY you are allowed to have all windows tinted. I believe no less then 30% on front and no restictions on rear windows. Windshield are allowed to be tinted as well. Plus if you tint the windshield with 70% and have the whole car tinted, you won't be able to see in.
Anything darker and good luck driving at night.

i have 40% in the front and 30% in the rear




depending on the angle and lighting it can look very dark.. but is very easy to see out of.. i love it, but may have issues with the PA fuzz..

i have an A6 avant and i will probably do 40% / 50% to insure my wife is not hassled..
