    Engine Removal Tips?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Alright i will be pulling my first motor this weekend and im looking for any pointers to make this easier. My friend and I aren't car retarded and have done a good bit before this but this is our first shot at pulling a complete motor.

The motor in question is a RB26T. We think it is a spun bearing so that will definitely our area of concentration but all fluids will be replaced and all gaskets will be checked and replaced if needed.

Any tips or pointers? We have a thread documenting a removal but Ive always found there is always something else you can learn. Thanks guys.

    Re: Engine Removal Tips?

Roll the hoist back and forth over the area where it will travel when you actually pull the engine. Nothing sucks more than forgetting about the expansion gap in the concrete or similar and dropping a wheel on the hoist in the crack and having to muscle it out. I know it sounds stupid but when I pulled my boat engine (which takes considerably more space than a car) I backed the hoist into a crack and had to enlist the neighbor to help us. Also protect the paint so that when your buddy leans way in and rubs the button on his jeans across your paint you do not have one more thing to take care of at the end of the job.

That's a good idea, ill keep that in mind. The paint will be covered as we will be touching up the engine bay while it is out.
