They hood release lever in the car will not release the black piece to "full open" the hood.

Anyone have a clue how i could solve this problem? My guess is i will have to take off the grill or pick it from underneath but i don't know. thanks in advance

I have disconnected the part below the steering wheel to inspect and the "hook" is still attached to the lever.

Mine did this same thing a few weeks ago when it started getting cold here.. It took a while to get it to open but when it did open I sprayed some wd-40 on the upper latch and spring attached to the hood. Worked it a bit and everythings been fine since. The grease gets tough in the cold is my thoughts.. Hope that helps!

If you can't open your hood you are going to have to pop the latch from under the car. You need a long thin piece of metal and you have to push up on the edge of the latch. It's best if while you are under there call a buddy with a S4 and have them tell you what the part looks like. That way you push on the right part. It takes a little effort but shouldn't be that hard.

Just go back to the cable underneath the steering that releases the hood latch, disconnect the hook from the lever and then you pull on the cable with a pair of pliers, this will release the hood latch up front.. the cable sometimes sctreches over time ..
